Can I ask what insurance dropped you, and which you picked up?

Can I also ask which track insurance you are going with? I got quoted recently through WSIB.
Erie Insurance dropped me. I'll stay mum on who picked me up (my wife has had them forever and we have her car, homeowners, and life insurance with them).

Here's the HPDE insurance I'm considering: http://hpdeins.locktonaffinity.com/Products.aspx There are a few others that I'm trying to get info on and compile into a list. I'll post a listing once I get it together.

I'm taking everything with a grain of salt and am analyzing and re-analyzing with my instructor who was in the car. The video is deceiving with regard to the line it looks like I took, etc... A frame-by-frame shows more.

Basically I went in and had a 4-wheel slide from the get go (off-camber turn), that evolved into a clockwise slow spin, which is why many are saying my line was too far right--the slow spin makes it look that way as my back end came around slowly. My initial reaction to the 4-wheel slide was to ride it out. Mistake 1--I should have opened the wheel and really forced the track out (potentially going off track left, but under more control). Then, when the slow spin started I did a minor, smooth correction. Mistake 2--I should have done a much more aggressive correction.

Once the clockwise spin progressed, there really wasn't much I could have done. If I didn't "overcorrect," the car more than likely would have gone off track right, albeit with potentially a less disastrous crash. The clockwise spin was still progressing and I was convinced I was going to spin off track right.

I have close to 1,000 laps on that track and that turn has never been an issue (others have!), but I'll be leery of it going forward. It bites a lot of people unexpectedly, as I unfortunately learned.

Slaya: Didn't get a chance to watch the vid yet but glad to hear you are alright! Sounds like you have a pretty good idea of what exactly went wrong in your situation, that's a good thing.

My local NASA chapter as well as my ASA chapter are using that insurance program now as well. I've already signed up with them for my track day this weekend. Premium was about $140 USD to insure my car and mods (valued around $23K) for the entire event (cost does not change if you do multiple days).

I wish they would have had this program sooner, though, as I put my GT into a tire wall about a month and a half ago All cosmetic damage, paid for it out-of-pocket for various reasons.

They don't say this is an expensive hobby for nothing!

Good to hear--$70 a day is worth it for peace of mind, plus you can have all your mods insured.

It happens. Glad to hear no injuries. Did you get it on video? My brother creamed his GTO's front fender earlier this year. I've been told by a few "old hands" that an off a weekend is fairly normal. You just hope that there is a lot of runoff area when it happens. Unfortunately, Summit Point will bit you at pretty much every turn...

I have some pics of the aftermath that I can post later, no video unfortunately I figured anyone that had a vid would have posted it to youtube already

I did get a GT/CS rear bumper out of the debacle, though

Overall, I'm not really worried about it since nobody was hurt. We're out there pushing the limits of the vehicle; potential for damage goes with the territory. I'm glad my car wasn't seriously damaged, though. You're lucky your insurance covered your wreck; getting dropped after the payout was pretty much a foregone conclusion.

Q4'08 seems to have been a bad quarter for cars around here. I munched up mine in the tire wall, 2 friends (both with GTOs) were hit by other motorists on the street, one of my Mustang racer friends blew an engine (too much BOOST), and another buddy just totalled his Lotus Elise on the street!

Wow, how did I miss this.... Man you were rocking and rolling, glad no one was hurt. Makes me want to be a little more reserved my next time out.

Glad to hear you're alright, that's one heck of a crash! You should let someone at ford know how well the structure held up, they might be interested in it.

I did--too many variables to make much out of it, though. Basically, I dodged the bullet and lucked out with the angle I hit the wall, the fact that was a section of the track where the wall is heavily "tired", and the rolls were barrel rolls across a dirt berm and tires, not roof-pancakers onto pavement. Still a stout chassis and roof, though.

But...the roll bar is in progress and UPS delivered my H&N device today. Seats and harnesses next.
