2010 Trans-Am Mustang

This is a car built by Tony Ave Racing that will be running in the Central American GT Series. With the exception of the wing endplates and diffuser, it's also the same body that will be running in the Trans-Am Series next year.

My thought exactly. I would have liked to see it look a little more like a "real" car, but at least it's still recognizable as a Mustang. They had to take a few liberties with it to be able to compete with the much more aerodynamic Vettes, Jags, and even the older body style Mustangs and Camaros. Hopefully the series will continue to grow and in the next year or so, we'll be seeing new body style Camaros and Challengers, too.

It would take a little more than headlights to make it anywhere close to production. The only parts it shares with a stock Mustang are the taillights. It's a full tube-frame car with a carbed 358.

Trans-Am series 2010 Mustang
Not sure if you all had seen this one. I like this better than the NASCAR version.
"Fajardo Ford in Puerto Rico campaigns this chromoly tube frame 2010 Mustang in their Trans-Am series. This car was formerly a back-up car for Tommy Kendall. Before its recent facelift, the Mustang won championships in the "Marlboro GT of Las Americas" three straight years. Power is made by a high port Sprint Cup engine from the Roush shop, and plans are being made to secure an FR9 for the coming season. With no time to test, the team ran the re-tooled car last week in the closing race of the "Central America Championship," finishing fourth. On looks alone, this Mustang stole the show."

Not a bad debut. The car finished 5th after starting from pit lane. Makes you wonder where he would have finished if he started where he qualified.
On a less positive note, it seems that there are those in the SCCA that are taking exception to the new bodywork being so far off from the stock body. Hopefully it's allowed to compete in GT-1 and Trans-Am as-is. I just don't see how any of the new "retro" pony cars cars could be competitive against the older bodies without a little aero help.
