Undercoat or No?

All - What's your take on undercoating??
I've typically had it done on my cars since here in VA we do get the full range of seasons and typically have some snow and salt every year and I HAVE to get out in it in my Jeep (to play!!!). Just wondering about doing it to the Stang...I don't plan on driving it much in the winter, at least when the roads are bad...that's what the Jeep is for but still thinking to protect the underside it might be a good idea.
I hate to mute the lovely sound of the exhaust any but wondering what the rest of you think and if any of you will have this done (by the dealer or aftermarket).

I've always had undercoating on my cars, but I think i'm going to hold off on the Stang for now. I am also in VA, but here at the ocean we do not see that much snow at all (plenty of rain though). If I decide to do it then it will be aftermarket at a resonable price.

Undercoating?
Seriously, I live in PA, and we get a lot more snow up here than in VA, and we just loooooove to lay down copious amounts of salt on the roads here. I know of very few people that have undercoating. I really don't think it does all that much, besides most of the time you'll see rust developing in areas that aren't undercoated like fenderwells and such.

Undercoating can cause more harm than good. It can harden then crack and separate from the metal in places. Salt water gets in and is trapped between the undercoating and the metal causing more rust.

I prefer the oil-based spray on rustproofing. It gets into all the tinest nooks and crannies and is designed to wick up into parts of the car.
In Canada, the company is called Krown. This stuff works. Probe is 10 years old and no rust whatsoever.
Only thing is, it gets the underside of the car and engine bay a bit dirty/oily, but you'll never have to worry about rust. Plus, they spray it in the doors etc.
I'm probably going to hold off for the first 1/2 winter but will get it in the fall of next year.

Will be doing the same ,over here there's Z-bart rust proofing that use's a oil base type .
But I have to do some checking when the time draws near as I have heard that some aftermarket types might do more harm than good by re-acting with the factory undercoating.
So I will check with ford to make sure this is ok getting the additional undercoating and whether it will cause a problem or not .

I will not be undercoating and for those of you that do, did you know that you are to have the undercoating removed every 2 years and then re-applied? If not salt, dirt, etc gets into the cracks (in the hard stuff) and starts rusting out the metal. The oil-based products that some claim are dripless (ya after most of it washed off from the rain) need to be reapplied every year to help prevent (more like slow down) the rust process. That too needs to be cleaned off.
I have never undercoated my cars and drive them in the winter. My new 05 GT (stang of course) will not see winter driving since I will baby it. Even if I did drive it in the snow, I would not undercoat it.

The undercoating can also clog the weep holes. These are the drainage canals that carry water from the front of the firwall, trunk, doors etc. These get cloged and your car will rust even quicker.

I think this looks pretty good for a rust inhibitor . .
Electronic Rust Inhibitor
I was going to buy it for my old Capri, but sold it before I purchased the product.
