The Smell of Death!

The Smell of Death!
Ok... I need some help...
On Wednesday night I drove to my in-laws to pick up the turkey for Thursday. The gave me a defrosted turkey that was double bagged. I thought nothing of putting it into my trunk. I pulled it out when I got home and the Mustang sat until Friday night. My wife and I went to dinner. Nothing out of the ordinary. On Sunday when we decided to run some errands in the mustang, we opened the doors and were greeted with the smell of death. I'm talking rotting roadkill on a hot summer day type of smell. (It was about 65-70 on Saturday.) It appears that the turkey leaked in my trunk. I pulled the carped out of the trunk and hosed it off. It's still sitting in the back yard drying. I put 5 boxes of open baking soda in the car and spread some baking soda in the area of the trunk where the turkey was and left the windows and trunk open all day with the rear seats down. Last night before I went to bed I febrezed the hell out of the interior and closed it up for the night. When I got in this morning to go to work it still smelled like death. Smell was not as strong as yesterday morning but it still smelled pretty strong.
Any ideas on how to kill the smell????

I know there is this can of stuff you can buy (let me see if I can find my can) that you spray in the ac and it kills all the smells in the ac. I bet it would kill the smells in the mustang too.

get a can of Coffee, poke holes in the top, put it in trunk, make sure it doestn fall over.. the crushed coffee grains will absorb odors.
Also check with Pet stores and get a product called Odor Ban. It is made for dog **** and **** and works wonders.. we use it all the time for shrimp juice outside. should work well with turkey juice

Drill press, steam roller, and then a Viking burial at sea, then nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure. Guaranteed to end that smell.
/I admit, it may be a teensy bit overkill.

Okay if you simply want to get rid of the smell so you cannot even slightly smell it anymore HERE'S what you do!!!! it works every single time!!!! find a dead skunk on the road, place it in your trunk, and let it sit overnight.....I personally guarantee that you will not smell the turkey anymore!!

On myth busters they took a whole pig and put it into a '78 corvette and parked it into a storage unit for a quite a while during the summer. They could not even part the thing out the smell was so bad.
They were trying to replicate the myth of the stank of someone dieing in the car and not being found for a few weeks.
Are you sure you just didn't watch it on the show? Lol

Did the liquid stay confined to the trunk or do you think it seeped elsewhere ?
If you've already scrubbed the Mat do it again. You should take every piece of carpet cloth and fiber sound deadening material that was lower than the Turkey out of that area. Look for some liquid concentrated Lysol. It should be in a brown bottle. Also scrub the trunk pan and every crevice, getting down into the lower part of the rear quarter panels. Everything in that area lower than where the Turkey sat.
Did you eat the Turkey?
