Well, I had my SSE Ducktail Spoiler installed with 3M tape. I had to take it off to get repainted and there's still some tape on the body. I've rubbed most of is off and gone over it with a claybar, but was thinking about getting some tar remover or something to accelerate this tedious process.

Any suggestions out there?

Thanks.

lighter fluid soaked rag?

I'd make sure you wash and wax it right away afterwards so no harm is done

Try the bug and tar remover first though, that stuff removes everything.

Try Goo be gone, or maybe it's just Googone. That stuff work's pretty well on stubborn sticky residue, that should get it all off.

Nothing like working for blisters! I got impatient and ended up using WD-40. It helped a bit, but I read that 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner is the way to go. That's definitely the route I'll take in the future. Got 'er cleaned up now. Water break and then time for a couple of layers of Zaino... Thanks for the reply!

Cool.......glad ya got it off. Question for ya. Where did you get your ducktail? and do you have any pics of it on your car? Sure would like to see it.

Just ordered my Tungsten GT on 7/13/05, so I have some time before it arrives.

I got it from California Mustang, but I'd check with AutoAccesory4U (http://www.autoaccessory4u.com/0520fomu3pcd.html). They've got better pricing. Also, the new Cervini's Ducktail (http://www.cervinis.com/NewFiles/05MUSTANG.html) is pretty hot.

I've updated my Gallery with three pics from a month ago.

Believe it or not, you can also try some Old English furniture polish. Works wonders for removing sticky stuff.

I took off my stock spoiler and it had lots of tape left over. I CAREFULLY uses a plastic putty knife to get the large clump off. As I got further along, I just used my thumb or finger and rubbed/rolled it off.

Plus I used a hair dryer. Wasn't too hard.

What are the long-term effects of 3M Tape? Will it damage the paint as it gets old? Start to peel off and lose its strength? What happens years down the road with this stuff? Just some things I'm curious about before I attach any parts with it

you do know that pretty much all trim on a car is held on using some sort of tape (door guards, bumper trim, etc). It has been used for years. chrome trim molding around wheelwells, door sills, etc. Don't worry about it.
