Moldy Convertible Top ***Help***
Moldy Convertible Top ***Help***
A friend has a 1990 Convertible LX and the white top is moldy in some spots. We have tried the Convertible Top Cleaners you can get at the local auto parts store and it seems to come back. What can we use to remove the mold permantly? Can I use bleach & water? Or is there anything better to use?
Thanks
Thanks
We used to use Westley's Bleche-White on the convertible tops. 66 Tbird and his 66 Mustang. Worked pretty good, can't imagine it wouldn't work great on your top for the mold. But only because it's a white top, otherwise you wouldn't want to use this or bleach on a tan or black top, say. If you were going the bleach route, try this instead.
Also, just like bleach, do NOT get it on aluminum or other bleach reactive items, it will be bad. Google it.
/Bleach bombs. Nasty things.

About 20 years ago, I had a 1973 Mustang convertible with a white top. I used Soft-Scrub with bleach, and it cleaned it up nicely. BAD IDEA! The bleach caused the stitching in the top to deteriorate, and something in cleaner made the vinyl very brittle. A few weeks later when I was cleaning the top again, it actually tore like paper when I pressed down on it!
Luckily it was time for a new top anyway, so I just replaced it. Maybe Bleche-White is safe for tops, but I'd keep it away from the stitching or at least put something on it to neutralize the bleach.

That's what Bleach does , ask any house wife that does a lotta laundry it breaks it all down & makes brittle.
and just incase ! NEVER EVER mix bleach with a window cleaner, I walked into a house being cleaned from a fire & they domped bleach it the toilet didn't flush & the window cleaner walked up & dumped his bucket in !!smelt like Bad eggs , it creates Clorox gas and if you inhale YOUR DEAD !
