I heard that Meguiars used to have a product called the "Medallion" that came as a cleaner or a wax. This was supposed to be designed for darker color paints from what I was told. Looking online, I found that the Medallion class has been discontinued.

For those of you with dark color Mustangs, do you know of any products that are designed for dark paint?

After using the Meguiars leather condition, I'll never use it again. Filled with silicone crap.

 

I use ClearKote and it really, really makes black look nice. keeps it smooth for months. also, try Zaino.

 

After more than a decade of owning and maintaining black vehicles- 3 at present count - I've come down to using this 4 step process: clay bar (twice a year), Menzerna Intensive Polish (twice a year), 3M Perfect-It II (swirl remover, when necessary) and Black Fire Wet Diamond as a sealant. All chemicals applied w/ a PC ROB. When I want that "pop" I layer w/ S 100.

 

I've heard really good things about Zaino, but it seems pretty expsensive. I've never heard of ClearKote. I'll be looking into that.

I use Meg's #21 on my black F150, does a nice job. Have been using Gold Class on the Mustang, also looks good.

Yeah, I need to get a clay bar. I've used one once before and they work great. I've heard good things about the NXT too. A friend of mine uses it on his car and loves it. $16 a bottle is kind of steep, but if it works why not?

 

NXT is similar technology to Zaino, and works great. It goes on easy and comes off easy without leaving chalky residue on the cars. Everyone I refer to the product loves it.

The #7 glaze and #26 wax from Meguiar's are both spectacular when used together. Tons of info there.

 

heres my process as I responded to someone else inquiry recently in a PM, this is (Ive found) the best for a black car and Ive own black cars for a while now and have tried A LOT of different products.

THE PAINT PROCESS:
I use Meguiars Gold Class wash, two buckets with a grit guard and a third with another mit for the wheels and tires. I also found that the Meguiars body brush to be helpful with the lower rocker panels so as not to have to get down on your knees.

after wash inspect paint, if above surface contaminents remain then use a clay bar and quick detailer to get it off

then reinspect, if swirls then use a paint cleaner. By hand the Meguiars Scratch X works, but by hand this is a pain staking process. I use a Dual Action with a soft buff pad and Meguiars M80 or for worse scratches M83, and in real bad cases I use a rotary.

then polish with Meguiars #7 Show Car Glaze, or if in a humid area use #5 New Car Glaze, this can be done by hand or by machine. By hand use a foam applicator pad and rub on until it starts to go clear and then remove with a clean microfiber

then wax with Meguiars #26 High Tech Yellow, if using a machine switch to a polishing pad, and by hand use a new clean foam applicator. Let dry and then remove with a new clean microfiber. I then let it sit in garage over night. then apply second coat in morning and remove. if you cant let it sit over night let it sit in a clean environment as long as possible, leave the hazy look on for a while before finishing to buff it completely off.

then I seal with Meguiars Synthetic Sealant, let dry and remove with a clean new microfiber

then I go over it one last time with Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detailer, two coats.
