Man I hate the rain - Part 2
So I got lightly sprinkled on a few weeks ago, first time rain touched the car. Then last week at work, it rained pretty good for 20 minutes or so at about 10AM, no hope for keeping it out of the rain this time. I finally got around to getting it washed today since it is raining almost every afternoon here in AZ this time of year.
The place down the road does handwashes with pure cotton towels, so when I'm in a hurry I take it there. I get home and start to apply some Zaino Z6 gloss enhancer spray and see that my trunk lid looks like a cheetah. WTF? Leftover spots from the rain that didn't come out during the wash. All over the trunk lid and hood. And they sure won't come off with the gloss spray, which is part of the benefit of using this spray.
So now it looks like next weekend is claybar time, and if these spots don't come out, I'm going to learn how to do an anti-raindance and send this country into a 20 year drought.
To all those people who told me "it's just a little rain and just a car" :nono: .

Acid rain?
I can't keep my car clean at all, and now it has spots like you have. I gave up trying to keep it clean a month ago, but I'm still mad about the dirt and water spots. So, I'm pretty much irritated everyday.

I have given up washing Eleanor for the moment due to our daily monsoons.
I have lovely rain spots- but everytime I drag her out to hand wash her, the rain starts again.
Fortunately she's yellow, so its not so noticeable, but I see a very fun all day cleaning in my future.

If it is hot out and then you get hit with a quick rain and the sun comes right back, the sun heats up the paint pretty darn quick so the water on the car evaporates very quickly causing the water spots. I don't know all of the techy terms for this but if my car sits outside and that happens I quickly go out and dry it off.
Claybaring the car will not remove the clear coat.
I drive a black 05 and find myself dusting and wiping it down usually twice a day. After a rain or once a week I wash it as well.
As for the "process"...
Be sure to use only a good micro-fiber or soft all cotton towel for applying, removing waxes or polishes, and washing ' drying the car too. Never rub to hard since even a good cloth can still mar the paint.
Using a household dish detergent (Most will do since most are alkaline in nature), was the car well, and give it a good drying too. Use a claybar with a lubricant (Water and detergent mix) in the shade if possible. After the claying, wash the residual mess off the car. Dry it again.
Apply whatever suits your fancy, (I use Zaino, but Maguires, Pinnacle, Mothers) they all make good stuff.
Invest in a Claifornia Duster. But be sure to let it air out over night prior to first use. And dont use it on a hot car (The wax from the duster will melt onto the finish) No harm, but it will streak, just wipe it off.
