Heat under hood after engine off

Heat under hood after engine off
Hi all,
Question for all. I have a v6 07 that runs pretty good overall. I've recently noticed after I turn off the car, more heat than usual is pouring out under the fenders. The temp gauge says it's ok, but the fenders are hot to the touch. it seems like the cooling fan should be on after the car is off to cool the engine, but as soon as I take the key out, the fan has stopped. AC works normal. Should the fan be staying on for a couple of minutes to cool the engine? If I pop open the hood, the heat escapes and the fenders remain cool. Anyone heard of this? Thanks for any ideas you may have
