On my older vehicles I simply wet the entire engine compartment (and bag the carb and distributor), spray on Scrubby Bubbles, and rinse off. It works well and I let it dry and armorall the plastic and hoses.

Before I do something with my 2005, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a better method or whether there are certain components that should really be protected with a bag before spraying out the compartment.

For a car show, what I do is spray Simple Green from fender to fender, firewall to fan and let it do its magic. Rinse, let dry then use tire foam from fender to fender, firewall to fan

Yes, it shows how to do it in the manual. You have to cover the battery and fuse box and maybe some other tinhgs. I would probably use a cloth with sometihng on it, rather than spraying the whole engine.

I don't cover the battery or the fuse box. Since I have a CAI I put a bag around the air filter. Then do the same steps Dave just mentioned. Works and looks great.

Thanks everyone, just needed some confidence. I've not heard of simple green but I'll find some at the store, I'm sure. I'll do it tonight!

Adrenalin, sorry about the misplaced thread. Never saw the Car Care subforum man...

Yeah important safety tip there, both mechanically and cosmetically (sp?)! I forgot to remove the bag from my filter one time, got about 3 houses down the street and heard a strange whistling sound so I pulled over and popped the hood. Sure enough, I left the bag on the filter. The suction was so great, it actually deformed the filter - so be mindful!
