Clay and then wax?

When I first got my black Mustang I used Meguiars Ultimate spray wax and then shortly thereafter I ordered some Optimum Spray Wax and did it again...noticed that the paint, in the sun and at certain angles, has that cloudy and smudgy look to it, which I am assuming means I have wax build-up on it. Can't notice it in the garage. Would the best thing be to use a clay bar on it to strip off the wax and then just wax again? I tried just using detailer spray but even that didn't smooth it all out. Also, whats with the little black bugs this spring...took the car out Sunday and by the time i had driven only a short distance, the windshield and front part of car was covered in them. Used Turtle Wax Bug and Tar remover spray which semed to take them off pretty easy.

I use Meguiars Gold Caranuba paste and it shines like a mirror finish. More work but it
looks better and lasts longer.

I used the clay first on mine, then I used 3M paint sealant, and finished it off with Carnuba. The clay is a great product that removes dirt and preps the surface for waxing. I got my stuff at Autogeek.com They also have a lot of information and tips on their site. Good luck

I like to throw in a polish between the clay bar and wax.

Clay, polish, then wax. Best results following that combo.

Moving to the detailing section where you'll find more info on said topic.

Remember Black is beautiful, but it is a full time job to keep clean. Having owned several Black vehicles, believe me I know. It became an obsession and then a "full time job" to keep it right while driving to and from shows, and on weekend cruises.
However, when cleaned and shined, there is no other color that will hold a
shine like Black.

Just an Old Mans opinion

You can do it either way, but machine will be far easier and more consistent.

waxing my car really worked, when I first washed my car after I bought it I saw a lot of contamination on clay bar when I clayed it, I clayed again yesterday and saw nothing on the bar, I am using meguires carnauba wax.

I detailed my car yesterday for 3:30 hours

Looks nice...i just used the clay on the hood and it's like glass...didn't pull too much off, I was mainly trying to strip the wax. But i noticed as soon as I tried to apply some spray wax just to see what it would do, it was almost oily after wiping it off, it left a sheen like appearance on the car. I never had this issue with spray waxes before...planning on getting a paste wax to apply tomorrow to see if that is different.

I am wondering if it is the spray wax I used, the Meguairs Ultimate and the Optimum both left an oily looking residue on the paint, I just tried my old standby spray, Turtle Wax, which Consumer Reports rated as the best spray wax (but they also said it's durability does not come close to the good paste/liquid waxes) and surprise surprise, no oily residue, yet it left a slick surface that beads up great.

Next question, i bought some really good and very thick/plush microfiber towels. I wash them together ( not mixed with other items) no softeners and on air fluff only in dryer. I noticed some of them leave tiny little fibers on the paint when using them. Any idea why? I used some of the cheaper microfiber towels I had in a small spot and they did not leave these fibers, but they also did not glide as easily over the paint as the more expensive very soft ones did, so I am afriad to use these on my new black car as I am afraid they will leave swirls and minor scratches. Any thoughts? I noticed these towels also leave these type of fibers on the windows if I use them to wash the windshield.

That cheap Turtle Wax spray seems to work wonders for ongoing maintenance. I swear by it.

Don't spray the spray wax directly on the car. Spray it on a micro fiber then wipe it on the car.
