car egged

someone tossed an egg on my car overnight and it dried. Most of it was on the back window, but some of it splattered forward over the roof and onto the hood. I cleaned it all off, but it appears to be etched into the clear coat. How do I get those marks off?

that really sucks, try bug and tar remover or claybarring it. not sure how well they'll work but, if i remember correctly, some other TMSers had gotten egged and used those methods to remove it.

Sorry to hear that...jealous cowards!
Get ahold of Meguiar's Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner Wax...comes in a dark red bottle. Use a soft damp cloth (keep dipping your soft cloth in the water and add a little more of the paint cleaner wax and work it into the paint)...be sure to keep wiping off the residue and check to see if the etching is gone...once gone use your regular clear-coat safe wax over the area.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

after a couple applications of Meguiars crystal paint cleaner and Scratch-X, I can still see the stains. I guess I'll have to get a pro to take care of it. I wonder if insurance will cover it?

I found out that it only costs me $15 more per year to have a $0 deductible on my comprehensive insurance. I always insist on $0 deductible on all my cars just because I don't want to pay every time some idiot goes off on my car.

nonsensez9, I once spent a good 20 minutes working on a bad stain...a couple of applications may not do the trick with Meguiar's Paint Cleaner...keep the cloth damp and keep working it...it will come out.

I got the whole car polished professionally at an autobody shop. They used a 3000 grip sandpaper, followed by a polishing compound. Lastly they used an even finer compound on the entire car and put on a glaze. They did an amazing job. Car looks like it just came off the lot. I couldn't be happier. I drove straight home and applied Blackfire Wet Diamond.

sorry, no. the hood was quite a mess because it was repainted (replaced), and the new clear coat is considerably softer than the factory clear. Anyways, I used some fairly abrasive cleaner on it originally to get rid of the egg, and I made a mess of it. I tried the scratch-x to hopefully clear it up, and it helped some, but after two applications my shoulders were killing me.
