2010 Ford Fusion S (Daily Driver) - Farah's chronicled transformation
**** I WILL CONTINUALLY UPDATE THIS FIRST POST WITH PICS AND VERBIAGE ****
Alright guys... I figured it's been a while since I did one of these threads. I usually do it for my customer's cars, and of course my own. So Farah was purchased fall last year, used 2010 with 36k miles or so. Her purpose in life was to be another daily driver, so I accepted the fact that dealer inflicted swirls and "detailing" would be the norm. Prior to yesterday, I have never hand washed Farah yet... not because of laziness, but because it was approaching winter at that time, so couldn't really whip out the bucket, etc.
So anyways, I figured now that Marilyn and Tori are taken care of for the spring/summer, time to turn to Farah.
After initial first wash, all looks good from afar. Decent gloss, decent paint.... but LOTS of micromarring, etched water spots, and swirling. I have some better nikon pics that I took that I will upload later, but for now, here's some iPhone pics that show the heavy swirls...........
p.s. don't mind the rims and fenders yet. I will do a full 2 times over once the paint is FULLY corrected.
.............................
Since she is my daily driver, and I am a busy husband and father of 2, I simply don't have the straight up 14 hours (anymore) or so time to do a full correction. So I do it in stages. I usually clay a panel at a time, then if I don't have enough time for the next step, I do a quick spray wax (Optimum Car Wax - OCW) to protect it for the next day. Then the next time I can finish that panel (buff and seal) or continue to other panels and repeat.
What I have done so far is clay (Sonax Clay with ONR Optimum No Rinse for lube) the hood, and entire driver side. Ran out of time, so just OCW'd the panels. My plan tonight/week is to clay the trunk/passenger side, then proceed to buff using Flex VG with Orange CCS pad, possibly Power Finish or M105... we'll see. Then Gray CCS with Super Finish or M205. Then Blacklight...... then as for final LSP's, we'll see. I'll keep you guys guessing.
So here is her driver side clayed and OCW'd... still has lots of swirls "hiding"... lol. But looks better than before.
.....................................
Stay posted for updates and her complete transformation. My hope is that you weekend detailers will see the benefit of true correction, and appreciate how important it is to be swirl free
