well I traded my 4.6 for a 5.0
but with a twist.
I need a truck, and my old 96 S10 just wasnt cutting it anymore. so I decided I would try and get as close to what my mustang is/was but in a pickup truck.
its a 2wd reg cab short bed STX 5.0 with select shift trans. it only has 3.31 gears but that should help with my mpg's a good bit. once its broken in I fully expect to be seeing high teens around town and low 20's on the highway.
I already ordered my resonator delete pipe and I have a new flowmaster 40 in the garage that will go on until I can afford my spintech prostreet. I also plan on having the windows tinted and buying a Roush CAI intake in the next week or so.

thanks everyone. OF COURSE there are mods in mind.
I work at a Ford dealer so before I left work on friday I had already special ordered my resonator delete pipe, and I have a brand new flowmaster 40 series in the garage I never used on my S10. its not my 1st choice in mufflers, but I have it so its getting used. I am ordering my Roush CAI next week (we are a Roush authorized dealer). I plan on lowering the rear about 2" to level it out AND to make accessing the bed over the side a bit easier. tinting the windows is mandatory and also will happen very soon. a lil further down the road is a bed cover of some sort and some sort of bedliner (spray in, DIY spray in or drop in, $$$$ will make that decision)
I drove it 2 hours away to my moms house today and without being broken in yet (currently has less than 400 miles on it) I still pulled down 20 mpg there and back, whihc isnt bad at all considering she lives in the mountains. prior to hitting the big mountains I was around 22.5 on the dash (taken with a grain of salt)

I have the FX2 extended cab with short bed with the ecoboost.. they each have there place, the ecoboost gets better fuel and can pull more, only due to the trq curve. The 5.0 sounds badass with a set of pipes on it though. Nice truck man, enjoy it!

as shane said the eco is available only in a reg cab long bed. the only engines in the the short bed reg cab is the 3.7 and 5.0.
the ecoboost has the "potential" to get better mpg than the 5.0, but it seems in the real world most people are not able to attain that potential. the 5.0 is a lot more consistent in its mpg's. I needed to mpg to be similar to the mustang AND V6 s10 (which it is replacing both vehicles). there also seems to be some issues floating around with the ecoboost.
apples to apples the ecoboost will beat a 5.0 in the same exact truck. but they are fairly close on horsepower numbers and a lot of races between the 2 will depend on drivers and conditions. I also think the 5.0 has more power potential than the ecoboost
one of the members on an f150 forum I frequent has a 2011 twin to my truck (right down to the 3.31 open rear diff) and he ran a 14.44 totally stock and after adding a Boss intake, tune, and CAI he ran a 13.94. to me this seems pretty impressive times for essentially a stock truck. I would LOVE to see what a reg cab short bed ecoboost could run. if only Ford made such a thing.

The problem with getting constant MPG on ecoboost is the drivers foot, i am so guilty of it, I can get 26 on the hwy, but its hard, the turbo spool is to addictive, and i end up only getting 17-18 mixed.. lol pulling my 8000lb camper, i get 9.3mpg on the hwy.. lol
