So, Fact or Fantasy ?
So, Fact or Fantasy ?
I ran into a guy the other day with a fairytale told to him by his cousin (Ford Motor Co) employee. He claims that all new Mustang GTs that a delivered to the dealer have the ECU programed from the factory restricting power and rpm for the first 30 miles. This is supposed to prevent the lot boys and customer test drives from abusing the car. Any thoughts on this nonsense ?

The GT500 does. It wont make full boost or rev over 4000 I think until it goes through so many start and warm up cycles (50 I think) or until its driven for 5 or 10 consecutive miles, can't remember which.
I tend to thing that all of you guys might be correct on this one. It might make sense for the GT500. That engine could be built with some fairly tight tolerances, given it's purpose.

Then the supercharger kicks in.

As these awesome members have mentioned and the info in the Shelby GT500 Supplement printing 1, on page 12:
Alternate calibration
Your Shelby GT500 power train control module (PCM) strategy contains
a feature to limit supercharger boost pressure and engine speed to
4,000 rpm for the first five consecutive miles of vehicle operation or 50
engine start/warm up cycles. This feature is enabled prior to shipment. If
neither of these conditions have been satisfied prior to customer
delivery, full power will not be available.
Other Mustang GTs do not have this feature.
