Did any of you catch "RIDES" on TLC Tuesday night? The show was about Shelby and Highlighted "Eleanor" from "Gone in 60 seconds". It was a great show!!
But, it had me thinking about the new 2006? Mustang Shelby.
How are they going to handle this car? How much control does Ford have over this project? Will we be able to A,Z,X Plan this car?

If we are not able to A,Z,X Plan this car, I would rather have Ford make a Mach1. Or I will keep saving my pennies and buy a Cobra at a later date. This entire SE Mustang topic is very frustrating right now.

You know what I would like to see? A 2006 Shelby Stang that is a watered down version of "Eleanor". Same paint job & stripes, different Fog lights & tail lights etc.

What do you guys think?

I saw that show! It was awesome. I had to tape it! If anyone is interested in just taking a look go to www.uniqueperfomance.com to see this small company of guys building "Eleanor" for anyone who wants to put down 100k-150k.

Probably should go back to the 05 forum, not really a discussion of the early cars... more a question of future Shelby/Ford Model.

Most guys in the Classic Forum would not even know what XYZ Plans are

Most of the show focused on Unique Performance taking old '67-68 fastbacks and restoring them. It's closer to classic Mustangs than '05s, but I'll move it to Mustang Chat.

Cool... I think GTJOHN was just pointing to that show as getting his thoughts of an '06 Shelby and what it should look like started.

That was a cool show. How bout Giambi's Super Snake, that was insane.. Im just sad to see another fastback made into an Eleanor when there are so many other possibilities.

I didn't realize the original Gone in 60 Seconds had a Mach 1 as the main car...

I'll have to go rent that one.

Kinda ironic that a company called Unique Performance is building clone cars. But they are very nice clones, at least.

The original Eleanor was a yellow '73 Mach 1.

From what I remember, the guys in that show find fastback stangs from the period and restore them up to a certain point and then add modern breaks and electronics as well as a modern engine. But the shell is still the old ford body and frame. Ford even allows the cars to be given new vin numbers.

Did ya notice that when they were talking about the original Eleanor being a Mach 1, they were showing a 1970?

Back to the original post... I'm pretty sure we can expect a Mach I of sorts in the new body style at some point. The SEs were brought in late to enhance the sales later in the season when most people begin to hold out for the next model year. It's a really smart business model.

Of course the '05 is going to generate enough demand on its own for several years, therefor the Special Editions are not needed for sometime. Just when the initial sales begin to dip a little we wil get the introduction of the convertible...
