I found out some interesting info yesterday.
I took off my boost controller last week and was temporarily making boost just from the spring in the wastegate (I can change springs like one can change pullies on a supercharger). I wanted to get around 8.5 psi with just a spring (and no boost controller - less to worry about).
With the boost controller I was dialed in at 10.0 psi on the dot, and that's what the car was dyno-tuned for (or anything less) - as long as I didn't go over that. I figured 8.5 psi was plenty for the street and more than safe.
When I took off the boost controller, the boost gauge was going to right around 5 psi, so I figured I had a 5 psi spring inside the wastegate. Turns out there was a 7.2 psi spring installed. Strange....
So, I had an 8.7 psi spring to put in (to get close to the 8.5 psi that I wanted), so I changed it... now the boost gauge reads right around 7.5 psi. Still strange!?!?
I called Tial (the maker of the wastegate) and he said that was perfectly normal and that there is usually a pressure drop through the intercooler, in my case, about 1.2 psi.
So, I actually had the boost controller dialed up to 11.2 psi, hence the engine (and boost gauge) was seeing the 10.0 psi. My boost gauge is hooked up to manifold pressure, so what the gauge sees is what the engine sees.
To get the 8.5 psi that I want, I'll have to install a 10.1 psi spring and end up with 8.9 psi going to the engine (still 1.1 psi under my limit).
Anyway... the pressure drop through the intercooler was what I thought was interesting. You install an intercooler to help cool the intake charge, but you eat up some of your pressure!
BTW... the reason for the strange spring pressures, is because they are rated in bars... .3 bars, .4 bars, .5 bars, etc... and they don't equate to even psi rates.

Ahhh... and just lift up one side of the cowl enough to get at the filter? Never thought about that. I had the cowl off for a different reason, but that's a good idea! The wipers were a ***** to get off!

Hello!
I took my cowl off to run my mechanical water temp gauge under it. The length from gauge to fitting is pre-set, and there wasn't enough to go any other way.
Anyway, I checked the cabin filter when I had the cowl off and remember thinking... wow, what a pain in the **** to get to this filter!!
It was perfectly clean, so I didn't change it.

Those be $3 more than a Mobil 1 filter.
I've use both and am sure they both performed well in filtering stuff.

I turn and stop all day long! For almost 2 years now without a front swaybar.
I'll concede to this:
You don't need them... as long as you don't enter a road race...
