Shortblock update...

Well, I got off the phone with MMR this afternoon and was told that my pistons were being coated today. So now, they'll have to be shipped back to MMR (local I'm guessing) then another 3 days assembly time.

Progress is sloooow, but at least its moving forward.

Gee, this whole thing is going on 8 or 9 weeks now and within this time, I got to drive it for 5 minutes.

That sucks. Good thing is this will give you even that much more reason to drive the heck out of it once it's back.

Sorry to hear that Bill, I am sure it is the definition frustration.

Question about coating though.... the pistons aren't coated from the MFG?? Wouldn't MMR buys the parts from whomever and then assemble the shortblock? What am I missing.

See that 99 lbs is a significant weight savings and removing the Shaker Sub would be a great help too. I think you should remove as much non-essential stuff and make a one-time ballsout run. If it works it'll be all that matters.

JonCo 5/13/08 08:57 PM

Quick newb question... My d-specs are installed. How do I remove the little caps off the top to adjust the shock/struts? Is it as simple as just twisting them off(with some force) or is there something I'm missing. I'll be honest I haven't had a chance to play with them yet. What are most you running DD? So far I'm in love with them, night and day in ride quality over stock!

kh765 5/13/08 09:10 PM

Just twist the cap off. I run mine at the softest setting, just because of the roads I have to use. I think I'm going to stiffen them up a little bit.

Don't think I'll be removing the passenger seat because I have side air bags and I don't want to tinker with that.

+1. I run mine 6 from firm all around. I've tried seven but the car just feels like a boat.

SoCal Peeps how about some dead cow?

New place to try maybe this Friday early evening? :poke:

Also I'm thinking of plotting a cruise through the Santa Monica mountains. The run will take use by Malibu, Calabasas we could end up at the ROCK store for breakfast/lunch. More to come...

yeah... that is a little extreme.... but you know what I mean. Stuff that you can take out easily that will add up to decent savings from the link.

A cruise sounds good. Calabasas... hell aren't we 1/2 way to Santa Barbara by then ?? But it's better than doin nuthin.

Friday, I think I can pull it off you said early evening ?? what time you looking at ?

From my understanding, MMR gets the pistons (forged Manley in my case) then ships them out to their contractor for ceramic dome/teflon skirt coating. My guess is that since this is a moderately priced option at $400, they don't stock a bunch of piston sets in different compression ratios/bore sizes, but rather done on a customer request instead.

When I do finally make it over there, I'll ask for a factory tour and report back on what goes on behind the scenes. I for one am curious why it takes so long to put a shortblock together.

I'm no piston coating expert, but here's what I think is the difference between coated vs non-coated...

I'm no drag strip expert, but will lightening the rear (on an already nose heavy car) create undesirable luanching effects? :dunno:

Hey, I always err on the side of not being a 'know-it-all'.. for anyone who claims to know everything, really knows nothing. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v6...h_japanese.gif

George, Luis I remember you guys complaining awhile back about not being able to charge your ipods throught your aux connector. Here's a cheap solution.

Curious to see the link when I get home though  you always find deals.
