I'll keep an eye out for the next couple weeks then. Thanks for the tip.
Just installed the armrest. Truth be told I couldn't feel the differece between the alleged leather and the vinyl from the stock piece. It's only slightly more cushiony. If it wasnt' for the stitching that goes along the sides I don't think I'd know the difference. It's probably the dumbest mod I've done. Doesn't get my recomendation.

BTW, how does the car look 'level' compared to the forward rake?

Tie two nuts to pieces of string and tape them to the rear fender dangling past the tire... and measure from the string to the rim lip on both sides. My rear axle is 1/4" off so it needs to be moved back to the passenger side 1/8". Without the string, you really can't tell it's off.

Pretty much the same as what Tom did... I tied something heavy on a string and suspended it from the center of the wheel well fender to the wheel center cap.

For some reason, my axle was centered after the drop.

Even if it were off a little, I've read that it really doesn't harm anything, just looks shifted to one side, especially if you're running wide rubber in the back.

To me it acutally looks as if the front is higher now maybe just an illusion since my gargage has a slight incline. Either that or maybe just a mind trick since I know the front springs haven't been changed. I'll look at it tomorrow when I take it out to go pick up my floor mats and mudflaps.

I think once you see it on Saturday you'll agree. I'm considering sending it back but I'll wait and see if maybe the combo of the ebrake and the lid together change my mind.

I did unwrap the ebrake just to check it out and I think you just might consider swapping it for your MGW handle. It looks really good IMO.

I have the CAI & SCT2 just sitting at the house waiting on installs. :( You might ask why I have not done it yet, and I will explain. Last weekend (the only time I thought I might get a chance) I spent most of it driving to pick-up my son from G-mas house.
Now we have an ice storm coming that looks like it will roll in tonight :banghead: and the last thing I want to do is add POWER when the streets will be covered in snow/ice/sleet. I would hate to think they will sit until spring, but that may just happen. :bad:

Stop procrastinating and install your new mods. The difference won't be dramatic enough to cause you to lose control.:poke:

89Trooper 1/12/07 02:05 AM

The front should be higher now. Remember... the back needed to be dropped about 3/4" to match the front, but you dropped it around 1 1/4".

Leo - I thought I was up early... or didn't you go to bed, yet??

LEO_06GT 1/12/07 02:13 AM

Wow I was just re reading the last few posts and I didn't expect to see a response. LOL nope I just haven't gone to sleep yet. It's only 1am.

Ahhhh so I'm not crazy the front is higher.:hmm:

20 lbs? Good job! Stay away from Taco Bell and the like and you'll be shedding off even more poundage.

Me on the other hand, have gained a few pounds since the holiday. :banghead: To make things worse, I'll be going on a 3 day cruise next weekend!... and you know what that means.. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ngemoticon.gif

Yep, I was 196 awhile back, and now this morning I was 176. I'm not following Atkins or anything, but I am watching carbs. I basically am eating smarter and with less easily-burnable carbs in the body, it's forced to switch to burning fat.

Leo thanks for the warning on the armrest.I'm gonna scratch this off my list of future mods. Looking forward to see the front springs installed. Be careful with the front spoiler..Its almost a given that with a drop and a spoiler that you'll be bottoming out..last car show(Roush one) that Tom and I and other TMSers were in, one of the judges told me one thing they actually took points off for was a scuffed up spoiler on the bottom. Couldn't believe it:shame: Anyways get those pics up ASAP:nice:

Armrest
No problem I feel it's my duty to give an honest opinion about any mods I buy. Like I said this is one I'd only recommend if you have nothing better to spend your money on. BTW- I'm bringing my stock armrest so we can do a side by side shot for comparison.

Chin Spoiler/Lowering
Trust me I'll be very careful since after all worrying about the chin spoiler clearance is the reason I kept putting this mod off. Don't worry Bill and Kevin will take plenty of pics I'm sure. Once they upload them I'll be sure to post.

Ultralite Review
Even though I've only installed the rears and only drove today for about 10 miles I have to say I didn't notice a difference in ride quality. To be honest other than the rear obviously being lower I couldn't tell the difference. I hope with the fronts in I'll be saying the same thing. I'll make sure to post an update after my drive back from LA tomorrow with front and rears installed.

The rear springs (on stock and lowered) have such low spring rates that you probably wouldn't feel a difference in ride quality. The front ones is where you'll see the difference. The Ulta-Lites are definitely the closest to the stock ride, but there is also definitely a difference.

It won't be like having a low-rider or Eibach Sports springs, but you will feel the road more. On the other hand, you won't sway as much through corners, the nose won't lift as much during initial acceleration (and the rear end won't squat as much)... and the nose won't dive as much during hard braking. The good more than out weighs the bad.

And I have never hit my chin spoiler - not even once.

We just got finished tinting the rear window. The hard part was having to cut rectangles out of the tint to go around the connections for the defroster.

It's 20% like the rest. If I could get used to the double layer of Limo tint on my '84 Olds Cutlass Supreme, this should be no problem! If I took the picture lower, you would see right through the front window (at least you do in person).

Looks great Leo ! Just went back and looked at the pics again. It looks perfect. The Bullits, rotors, calipers and now the drop, beautiful

I have a few pics that I'll put in a folder in my photobucket if you want to grab 'em.

You guys completely convinced me to do this myself. I was very hesitant about touching struts on a car and seeing it done up close-n-personal changed my mind. Of course having Bill take me out in his car/monster and then driving mine home, well let's just say IF I had the 700 bucks right now I'd be ordering the C&L/SCT from Doug. I seriously cannot get that soon enough. Realisticly I'll probably do the springs and intake/tuner at the same time.

How hard was that e-brake to do ? I know your on the fence about the center console but isn't there door armrests too that are stitched, you gonna get those as well ?

If I didn't have plans for the rest of today I would have stuck around. But I couldn't afford it any more. If I had stayed Bill would have talked me into getting the CDC shaker

It wasn't hard to do it was just a PITA I repeat a PITA. Look through the gallery in my photobucket to see what's involved. If you want me to go into detail shoot me a pm with your #. When all is said and done though I think it's a great improvement over the crappy stock one. I would get the door armrests put the only way to get those is to buy the entire door panel which just isn't worth the dough IMO.

LEO_06GT 1/14/07 02:00 AM

Reviews as promised.

Steeda Ultralites-
Install: I did the rear springs by myself using TacoBill's write-up and have to say it was really easy even for a mechanical novice like myself. The front springs I did with direction and assistance from Bill and while slightly more labor intensive it's still not that hard to do as long as you have the tools.

So after driving over 100 miles with them so far I have to say I'm very pleased with the ride quality. The only time I felt a difference was when going over medium to large sized bumps in which case I felt them more than I did with the stock springs. Other than those situtations which were very few the car felt as if it still had the stock springs.
FYI-My rear axle was only off by a 1/4 to the right after lowering.

Armrest-
As you can see from the pics above there's hardly any difference between the stock armrest and the pleather wrapped armrest. They even feel the same. If it wasn't for the stitching on the sides I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference. IMO this was a waste of money and wouldn't recommend doing this mod unless you have nothing left on your mod list.

Ebrake-
While it does look 10,000 times better than the crappy plastic stock handle I will say this mod is not as quick and easy as it looks. The mod involves removing the entire center island (down to the carpet), removal of sail panels, front of center console, as well as a trip below the vehicle to release the ebrake cables. I love the way it looks and couldn't be happier with. Is it worth it? That's for you to decide.

Another case of poor judgement, immature adolescent driving... but it sure was fun! :nice:

Glad to hear that you like the Ultralites. Just start getting used to approaching dips and driveways more cautiously now.

Any wierd noises, creeking, or grinding (when turning your steering wheel)?

How was the 'toe' setting? Was the steering wheel centered when driving straight?
(FYI: If you're going to check, make sure there's no crown on the road)

(E-Brake)... crappy plastic stock handle, huh... you're hurting my feelings. :crying: J/K.. your new leather wrapped handle looks way better, I'm just not sold on that feature alone versus the cost and labor involved.

Let me know if you want me to do a write-up on the E-Brake install. I'll include it in my 'How To' section giving you full credit!

Other than those situtations which were very few the car felt as if it still had the stock springs.
FYI-My rear axle was only off by a 1/4 to the right after lowering.

Yep, that's the way it is. On a nice, level road you won't feel any difference. Since you drive it a lot, you'll notice the rebounding is different over bumps - like you said. Eventually you'll understand what I and others mean by the car being "busy" now - instead of floating over an uneven road, you'll feel it a lot more. But, for the look, it's worth it.

Your drag racing experience should improve, too. You should feel the nose raising less, and the rear squating less.

That's mine, too - 1/4" off. I hate to spend the money to move the rear end over 1/8" and then have something adjustable that can loosen up or change over time. The solid, stock panhard bar is good enough for me. And you can't even tell on my car where the tires are out closer to the fender wells... I'm sure your's is almost impossible to see without measuring, right?

habu 1/14/07 11:55 AM

Brain scored a 10.0 on the Sphincter Meter when the rear started to pitch sideways! :rofl2:

Another case of poor judgement, immature adolescent driving... but it sure was fun! :nice:
I assure you my Brain was fine... It's a good thing our seats don't have buttons on them, you'd be missing a couple :jester:
Still sideways through second was very fun. I just wish I has the 700 bucks right now.

Oops, I meant 'Brian'! But, guess it applies to the brain too. :rofl2:

Don't worry, you'll soon get all the mods on your list. Most of us had a 6 month jump on you.

Bill

Glad to hear that you like the Ultralites. Just start getting used to approaching dips and driveways more cautiously now.

Any wierd noises, creeking, or grinding (when turning your steering wheel)?

How was the 'toe' setting? Was the steering wheel centered when driving straight?
(FYI: If you're going to check, make sure there's no crown on the road)

Thanks. So far no wierd noises of any kind. The steering wheel is centered while driving in a straight line.

(E-Brake)... crappy plastic stock handle, huh... you're hurting my feelings. :crying: J/K.. your new leather wrapped handle looks way better, I'm just not sold on that feature alone versus the cost and labor involved.

Come on you know you want it.:poke:

Let me know if you want me to do a write-up on the E-Brake install. I'll include it in my 'How To' section giving you full credit!

By all means feel free to do the write-up as It will be very helpful to anyone who decides to do this mod.

Yeah I don't think 1/4 inch is worth $169. Unless someone measures it they'd never notice it. Either way I'm leaving as is for now.

Looks pretty cool! I've heard that running RC models can get quite expensive.

Yeah the truck alone is about 500 or so, then I put in the biggest motor I could find which was cheap at 200 and that doesn't count the stuff I broke or the "hop-up"/mods i put on it.... so needless to say I can't break anything more 'cause I'm not spending my CAI/Bamatunes money on a *toy* truck. As much fun as it is, it doesn't beat the pucker-factor that I got a taste of on Saturday...

Bill, Leo,

I was just washing my car and noticed that my calipers are as silver and shiny as day one - no grunge. I guess the high humidity ruins the rotors and the smog ruins the calipers??

Us Floridians think all of CA is covered in smog! :rofl2:

Right after washing the car, the rotors are completely covered with rust. Not the black parts, just the bare metal - and since the pads hit all of that area now, as soon as I drive, all the rust is gone. This is on every car in FL.

Lastest email from MWAG-
"Thanks to everyone for their patience. We are presently molding the new
shock tower covers. We will begin replacing the covers starting next
week. Our goal is for everyone to receive the new covers within a 3
week period. We will ship the covers on UPS and issue a call tag to
your email for the old shock tower covers. Please place this label on
the old covers and return to the UPS driver at time of delivery of the
new covers.
If you did not have a fit issue, please let us know and we will not send
new covers.
Thanks"

I sent a reply asking why they had gone back on there word about letting us keep the old ones.

Here are some washed and polished pics. I gave up on Zaino since it's so hard to see on a white car. It's too much work for too little difference. I just use something like that "Wax as you Dry" stuff, but what I have is made by Dupont. After I blow most of the water off the car and out of the nooks and crannies (like the grille and the SilverHorse Racing rear panel), I just spray this stuff on the car and wipe it off as I finish drying.

Any little black spots you see are bugs - they think the car is a light.

Attachment 17487 Attachment 17488 Attachment 17489

I like the eerie looking clouds reflecting in the tint and hood stripes.

And a pic of my rusty rotors (for all y'all non-Florida folk):

Attachment 17490

After I drive it, the rust goes away and stays away until I wash it again.

LEO_06GT 1/15/07 04:53 PM

Wow that Flordia humidity really does a number on the rotors. So far so good mine are still rust free. Like I said before I can't believe you waited so long to tint your windows. The car looks so much better with windows tinted.

The first pic in the second row got me thinking about ordering that hood stripe.

LEO_06GT 1/15/07 04:58 PM

Here's a pic of a new hood graphic they're offering. Only problem is that it's only a paint stencil. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if they can make a vinyl cutout of that stripe.

Well, there used to be a permanent ring of rust from the powdercoating not reaching the pads, but since I painted them there is only rust right after washing. Pulling into the garage, I let the brakes drag slightly and that was enough to shine 'em up!

I definitely love the tint! I can't believe I waited so long, either. See the first pic in the second row with the cloud reflection in the strip of tint across the front? There's no way you can see the radar detector!

You would get the stripe in matte black? It should fit perfectly - my car was the model! :nice:

LEO_06GT 1/15/07 05:17 PM

No doubts it will fit perfectly it's just I like the design of the "paint stencil". I'll call tomorrow and see if I can convince them to make a graphic of it for me. If I do go through with it I think I"ll go with either the matte black or a dark metallic charcoal.

Have you considered buying the black taillight trim? I think it would go well with your theme as well as your SHR panel.

They both say "281". It doesn't say "182"... everybody here reads left to right. Leave it alone or take both off, not just one. Personally, I would take both off (they're too big). But I know somebody that will argue with me!

Man, I'm dissapointed at them. Why can't someone produce a nice looking cover for the strut towers?

Steeda was on the right track, but it makes no sense to cover the center strut nut, but leave the other 4 mounting nuts exposed.

No problem I'll wait. I was acutally thinking we might be forced into keeping them since no one else has anything better out. I might just keep them and use the originals just for show.:shame:

LEO_06GT 1/16/07 07:44 AM

I thought I'd let everyone know I ordered color samples from graphics-express today. I asked for slate metallic, silver metallic, charcoal metallic, and matte black. Once I decide on the color I think I'm going to just bite the bullit and order a shaker stripe like Tom's. I'm really hoping I like it since there's no returns unless I decide on matte black or slate metallic. Worst case scenario I'm out $100 if I go with a "custom" color and decide I don't like it.:screwy:

If we keep the new designed covers, we also get to keep the original covers?

I'm not a fan of stripes on a black car. They don't look bad but to me it doesn't have the same Ooooo and Ah factor that your car, a VB with white stripes, or a PW with VB stripes has. Plus I don't think I'd have the patience to apply them.

LEO_06GT 1/16/07 08:40 AM

Disregard what I said earlier about the MWAG shock tower covers. I just called them and what they told me was If you want to keep your old ones then you don't get new ones. If you want the new ones then they'll send them to you and included will be a prepaid shipping label to send back the old ones.

This really ****es me off. I want to keep my old one's and use them only for show but I can't because they have that rub mark. I asked if I could have my old mold replaced and was told all the old ones have been destroyed. So now I'm either stuck with my defective tower covers, the new crappy covers, or even worse no covers at all.:shame:

Thanks for calling them up and getting it straight.

I'm thinking to go with the new covers no matter what. Even though my 'old' ones are perfect (no rub marks), it'll always be on my mind that they will eventually rub through.

I understand that they can be used for 'Show Only', but I really don't want to hassle with the on/off at the shows, Mustang Cafe, or anywhere else I want to pop open my hood to show it off.

So, I'm assuming that MWAG hasn't acted on our account yet until you officially tell them that you want or don't want the new covers? Or did you already tell them to ship the new ones?

Your right about not being able to wax the matte black they have a disclaimer on they're site that states that. Not only that but matte black would be a little to suttle IMO.

Ehh, don't even bother wasting your breath. I know if anyone talks smack about my car, they are either Camaro lovers or the itsy-witsy minority.

Ah like I told Bill I'll just leave them on. I guess I just got butt hurt when I heard the idiot at the track say wtf is a 182.

I see your point. It'd bother me too then.

If I can add to the opinions today...

Gold or possibly Silver stripes look good on a black car... that's about it. Unless you have a matte black, blacked out hood.

I don't like any of the strut covers, except for the steeda ones, maybe.

And bow your hood.
