I have a 88 GT Automatic 5.0 and the transmission in it is totally shot to death. I need a new transmission to fit my needs and I was looking at the AOD to C4 conversion kit fromPerformance Automatic. I was just wondering if anyone here has had any experience with the C4 and what did you thought about them if you did. It sounds great but I havent spoken to anybody whos had personal experience with them. Here is a list of what the kit comes with. If anyone would have any suggestions on something that the kit does not include that I might need, please let me know. Thank You.

-C4 Competition Transmission with Reverse Manual Valve Body
-10’’ Pro Launch Torque Converter with Stall Range from 3000 to 4000
-SFI Flywheel 0, 28, 50 oz.
-SFI Pro Fit Bellhousing
-18000 GVW Transmission Cooler that will handle summer street use
-Custom Design Dipstick and filler tube with lock top and hat seal
- ‘’How To’’ Instructions for a Complete and Easy Changeover
-Hurst Quarter Stick
-Self Locking Torque Converter nuts and bellhousing bolts
-Complete set of fittings and cooler lines- NOTHING ELSE TO BUY
-Neutral safety switch, shifter cable, brackets. Easy to adjust
-Deep Aluminum Transmission Pan with Built in Drain Plug
-Pro Shift Servo
-Nuts, Bolts, and misc. Hardware. EVERYTHING YOU NEED
-Shipping Anywhere in the Continental United States VIA U.P.S.
-Capable of handling 750 horsepower

It's a good swap for a drag-only car. I can't imagine doing that on a street driven car though. It's tough as heck, but it'd just kill any highway driving. I have a C4 in my 66, and it is a good transmission. It isn't crazy built like the one you are looking at, so I'm sure it is a different animal. Us classic folks have an expression: "You know your C4 is working correctly because it is leaking". I'm sure it is possible to have a good running C4 that doesn't leak, but I haven't run into one.

I never had a leak in any of my C4s but i agree they are great transmissions and can take a pounding.

are you not recommending it as an everyday driver because it does not have an overdrive?

Yeah that would be the only reason. Have had several cars with C4s in them though none built like the one your putting together. No over drive is painful for you if your running a performance gear ratio.
