Night Driving with Grill Lights

Just got dark enough for me to take some pics, so here's a quick demonstration in front of my house.
This first photo is just fog lights, NO headlights. Notice how the area immediately in front of the car is well lit, as well as a good portion of the road to my left (you can see the posts from my neighbor across the street's chain link fence); however, you can only barely see my neighbors RV:

Second picture is just head lights, NO fog lights. Notice the RV is visible now, but the area immediately in front of the car and the road to my left is less lit (can no longer see the fence posts) by the headlight's more focused beam:

Third picture is head lights AND fog lights. Notice we now get the best of both worlds, the RV is lit, AND the area in front and to the sides. This is a definite improvement over both the pictures above:

The last picture (sorry it's blurry) is with full beams on, which overrides the fog lights. Notice we lose some of the light in the foreground because the headlights project a more focused beam than the fogs, but the RV is now very brightly lit and the speed limit sign down the road reflects brightly.

Hope this helps.

With halogen bulbs it was like night and day IMO. I had to drive with dogs and headlights all of the time. After installing HIDs, I can literally drive with my fogs and see fine but still using both makes it almost crystal clear immediately in front of my car. This is just IMO of course but I couldn't fathom not having the fogs.
