The most famous Mustang of them all
Members,
I suppose we all have our reasons how we came to love the cars we own. I suspect for many of us, it was the first time we saw our favorite movie "bullitt" which arguably did more for the mustang than perhaps Carroll Shelby. Now, we've heard the car is somewhere in the mid south and finding would be like finding bigfoot. Well, I came across a website saying the VIN# for this most famous mustang is VIN 8R025125559. My question is, does anyone have a subscription to a registration website. I would love to get a peek at this car.

And Joey scratches his thick skull wondering why he gets certain responses in return. ![Headscratch](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/headscratch.gif)
Based on the pop culture and impact movies had in the late 60's I think there's some truth to that. Bullitt movie not only exposed the Mustang farther and wider than before, but also spurred a number of other "chase" movies.
If SMQ's Bullitt isn't at the top, it is surely near the top.![Cool](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/cool.gif)
IMO, I fell in live with the looks and fun of the 65 2+2 w/289. They sold a million Mustang's in 18 mos by 66 based on the first model.
The Shelby GT350 propelled the Mustang beyond the "secretary's car" and beyond just being cool into a track competitor.
And certainly the Boss was a wave of its own.

Point is, you don't always need to be quite so caustic.

The bullitt was nothing but a black sheep begging. I'd buy a new Boss 1000 times before I would buy a bullitt...and I'm talking about the remake.

According to The Mustang Source timeline, Bullitt made the top as "most famous" for one year - at a minimum. :
The most famous 1968 Mustang was the GT 390 fastback Steve McQueen drove in Bullitt.

If I saw a new bullitt just catch fire and I had an extinguisher on me, I wouldn't waste the extinguisher putting it out.

someone find the first and only TMS Podcast, they made mention of the Bullitt cars and where they are now. If I remember correctly, perhaps the one in question is owned privately, and is not available for viewing.

Honestly, ive never seen the movie, but ive heard alot about it! Guess im goin to have to watch it!! As far as the bullit goes... I think its a very good looking mustang!! I seen one on the showroom floor in 08 and it was awesome!! Im not big on any dark green colored sports car but it just works on the bullit for some reason!! And as far as what steve mcqueen and the bullit did for the mustang, i have no clue, i probably wasnt even born yet!! I knew nothing about mustangs but when i drove my brother in laws 90 lx 5.0 hatch 5-speed in high school, i fell in love and to me thats the most popular mustang for me!!! Thats the car that reeled me in!!!
