How long do stock mufflers last?

Curious about how many miles/years stock mufflers last before needing to be replaced?

Assuming anyone on this forum keeps stock mufflers...

Mine lasted from 1994 to April 2007, when I got it. A month later they were dumped for Flowmaster 40's The stockers were still like new. Don't know the mileage since the odometer has been dead since 50k miles.

Short trips that don't burn off the H20 condensation etc. will cause them to rust out (from the inside) faster.... but maybe design/technology etc. is better now?

My Dad had a 11 year old Taurus (sold it a few years ago) with 125,000 miles on it. I changed the fuel filter on it and the whole exhaust system still looked like new.

Thanx for the input guys. I do my best not to take short trips so there's no condensation and wondered about the new stainless factory systems.

They've definitely gotten better over the years. The stock exhaust on my 1981 Mustang Cobra blew apart and the exhaust pipe wrapped around my axle at about 100k miles and 8 years of age. The mufflers on my 1989 5.0 LX needed replacing at around 130k miles and 5 or 6 years of use, and the mufflers on my '01 Bullitt still looked in great condition when I sold it a couple of weeks ago.

Mine would be long gone by now, but still waiting on Borla`s sound clips to come out before making my decision. Bassani vs Borla
