Well the gt500 2011 just has some really short throws and is kinda notchy. Compared to the new GT's the shifts really are alot shorter and its easier to miss a shift. Its basically the same tranny as the GT just shorter throws and can handle a tad bit more power but thats about it. Its really nice once you get the hang of it but its too easy to miss shifts IMO
But its definitely FAR from a "horrible" or even "bad" tranny

 

Or he's in tune with the true spirit of the mustang. The entire concept of the mustang was you get a basic car with a simple engine and you add on to it and turn it into the car of your dreams. That was fords idea. Not to bash the shelby but everyone has their own taste. If the shelby suits you good for you. I'm happy for ya. But it doesn't fit everyone. Its important to remember that just because it cost more and is faster off the lot doesn't mean its what everyone wants. I really enjoy the "I made it this fast" feel.

I know all about building up a GT. I had an 06 GT that I put $30,000 into. You name the part I replaced it. This time around I choose the Shelby and it is way more car stock then my modded GT was.

For him to say every Shelby has a terrible transmission is ridiculous.

 

GT500 all the way. Looks great also....

 

Ok I will give you his statement was biased. But for you to say your opinion is more valid than his is WAY more arrogant. If he doesn't like the shelby's tranny that's his right. There is no sense in getting bent out of shape because someone doesn't think your car is god. I had the option to buy a shelby and didn't. Why? Because it didn't suit me. I want to mod mine. Shelbys are nice and very sexy cars but they arn't for everyone. Just be glad you have the car you want. Let him be happy with a different car.

Believe it or not the owner of that Mitsubishi Eclipse GT V6 in the picture next to my car wants to race me at the drag strip come spring. He even bet me $50 he would win in the 1/8th mile because his car is "so much faster off the line" and will annihilate a Mustang GT in the lower gears. And I am pretty sure his car only comes in automatic with the V6 too..

I just looked at him like... "seriously?"

I wonder if he even knows that his car is FWD.. people amaze me.

 

Did you tell him he's crazy.....if you had a 4.6 and he had skill he might be able to get a short jump on ya but by 2nd gear he would be toast. Up against a 5.0 he doesn't have a prayer. Enjoy your 50 dollars!

 

I confirmed it his car is an auto. even with skill the outcome would be the same. I told him he is crazy but he was in front of his girlfriend and a couple hot girls from my neighborhood. Up until now (sadly) his only competition on our street really was my Civic Si. Now I think he is feeling the tinyness of his genitals or something because he felt the need to come out of his house walk down the street and bad mouth my car when he saw the girls (including his girl, who knows I am married) all crowded around in the cold checking out my new wheels. He even went so far to say "no matter how fast it is, it's still just a crappy Ford." Even when I had my Civic Si I always thought his Mitsubishi was a piece of crap lol but I have never felt the need voice it to him. Poor guy.


Oh well maybe if he doesn't come to his senses by spring I will use the fifty to buy myself a decent bottle or something lol

 

Sounds like envy to me. I had an eclipse at a light a few weeks ago rev his weed wacker exhaust at me. (I had just installed my pype bomb axle backs that day so she's fairly loud for just AB.) So I gave him three deep revs his girlfriend turned POINTED at laughed at him. His "what ya gonna do look" turned to a glare real quick. I didn't even have to race him (he was in the left turn lane anyway). Most of those guys are really insecure. They don't seem to understand that there is ALWAYS a faster car.

 

If he wanted a fast car, not a poser-mobile, he'd have a Evo. The Eclipse now is the same as an Accord coupe -- nice cruiser, bit of power, nothing like a Mustang.

Dude in a Lexus ES300 did the same to me this AM. Nutty people.

Does make me itch for warmer weather to install my long tubes, though, and that Ford Racing intake and throttle body look awfully tempting...

 

Lol very true. I had a kid in a cavalier who thought he could beat once. Some of these kids need cat scans. Never really surprises me anymore though. Chevy fan boys make it a point to make the mustang sound slow and idiots beleve it. Funny thing is ford is beating chevy on all fronts. Found on road dead my a**.

 

Lets see, ive had a cavalier, civic si (96 hatch), eclipse, and a couple other ricers come up to me at a light. They would rev their rice cans up and i would shut em up with two or three revs. Pedal to the floor, make them ricers shake!
The only guys i dont mess with are a twin turboed evo MR edition, turbo supra, and a couple others. I just laugh and shake my head when others come up to me like that. And when i beat em they always, repeat ALWAYS either say "its still a crap Ford" or "you got lucky!" haha go back home to momma and cry me a river!
