Gotta buy my 1st ever radar detector
#43
I have mine hardwired up as high as possible, above the mirror. Not only so that cops don't see it...but it's not easily visible to anyone (passing by or while stopped). I've never had a cop mention it during a stop.*
* And before someone mentions: "Well if you got stopped, then why have it?" YOU'RE MISSING THE POINT. I space my tickets out a year apart...so that I can take defensive driving, and have none on my record. If you don't take defensive driving every now and then, then you're missing out on some driving fun.
A radar detector is there to *help* you, not to *save* you. If you're constantly going 40+ over, then good luck...cuz that's all that's saving you and it's only a matter of time.
For the people that keep saying to take it to the track...ignore them. Having/needing/wanting a radar detector has nothing to do with going to a race track. Having one does not mean that you're driving 150mph everywhere you go. Nor does it mean that you can drive 150mph everywhere you go.

It *helps* you. It is there only to help you. It's not there to save someone from driving like a jack***. Like I said earlier...it means nothing, if the driver has no idea how to use it.

A radar detector won't do **** for you on an open road with no traffic. You've got to have a rabbit or at least good traffic in front of you where you keep coming up in cars that serve as a shield.
And then there's the radar. Keep an eye out for that parked patrol car to the right or motorcycle parked to the left on the freeway. Often times just over a blind hill or overpass.
There's a science to it. You've got to be smart and know how to use it. The only ticket I've had in years was because I had the dang detector turned off. Doesn't do **** if it's turned off!!!!

They've gotten creative around here with the revenue generation techniques. They'll put a cop out with a road construction crew, no car, dress him up in an orange vest, hard hat and all.
He'll sit in one of the trucks with a laser while they are working and check cars as they come through. A mile up the road they'll have 5 or 6 units waiting to pull the cars over that he caught and radioed ahead to them.
Easy pickings since the limits fluctuate wildly in construction zones, and are temporarily marked to over ride the normal limit. Not to mention that the fines are doubled when workers are present.

Instructions? The packages will tell you how to operate any features. I'd suggest to anyone thinking about getting one...spend some time on the internet and learn about the different types of radar/laser and how they operate, and how to use that to your advantage.

That should get you started. If you're looking at a specific detector, just google some reviews for it. Oh, and stay away from anything made by Cobra.
