Found a new Dashcam Video app for iPhone - one that actually works.
I spent a considerable amount of time looking for an iPhone app that basically acts like a police dash-cam: one that records speed, video, and preferably tracks with a map overlay.
I found tons of apps that don't work, crash, or simply were coded too poorly to even grace the light of the Apple store (but somehow did anyway) until...
Dadny Mycar Recorder (Dadny, not Dandy)
At first I was skeptical because it was new (and there is not much on the company website as it appears to be overseas) and has virtually no reviews, but I am testing the Lite version (which is very limited in how much video it can capture and other settings) but it actually works and shows speed , location & other data on playback (and it can be exported) - I will test the overlay and tracking features later.
If it delivers, I will get the Full version as it is $1.99 (the Lite version is free) and post a review and maybe a video or two.
I want to have some type of evidence in case of an accident or other incident - I don't see why it couldn't be used in a track environment as well.
If anyone has any other app that they prefer, I am interested before deciding on this one, but I didn't find anything else worthy...

Check out Harry's Laptimer Pro (iPhone app); works awesome, and the data can be exported for overlay to TrackVision, or combined with GoPro footage as well.

I think I mis-read your post; I thought you found a dash-cam software and wanted to use it for the track. You could just get a GoPro and the Progressive Insurance Snapshot dongle that tracks everything your car does, if your plan is to use it for insurance purposes.

Actually I was looking for a dash-cam type of software that has a map overlay and shows speed, etc.
Update: I have been testing the full version with mixed results. The program is buggy and tends to stop recording audio or video without notice, depending on the settings. I am still in the testing stages, but it seems to be stable at a medium resolution with no sound - very dissapointing yet sadly still the best app offered.
While it does offer playback that includes data such as speed, direction, location address, these are not automatically exported in the video file unless you add them to the video via a setting, but cuts the framerate to 2ps - meaning virtually useless. You can, however, export a seperate tracker file that can be viewed with Google Earth.
More results soon.

The location will not export to video unless you want it to, which is one of those 'advanced' features that kill the app... When you view it within the program, it shows all that information, but not upon export.
I am currently testing this one (free version) and will post results (along with MyCar) soon...

Harry's laptimer records video, GPS position, speed and G forces. You can overlay the latter 3 in the video file for playback. It works on the street just as well as the track. I did a recording going around some local clover leafs night before last. I'll try to post it up to youtube and provide a link so you can see if that would meet your needs.
EDIT: Here is a link to the youtube video. the track is shown on the bottom of the screen with a green dot indicating position, speed is show to the left of that. You can also export the data in a .kml file for overlaying in Google Earth.

I settled on Power Recorder, it really delivers.
It records well in day or night - excellent video quality and sound. Out the box, it records in about five minute increments and you can get almost an hour out of it as it hold a total of ten - you can purchase ten more for 99 cents so basically it records an hour's worth and an addition hour is about a buck. It dismisses the oldest videos first. Export is excellent as you can do video or video with data as shown in the demo video.
An hour of recording takes about half of a full charge, so I don't need a charger hanging around the dash.
I viewed some demos for Harry's Lap Timer and it appears to work as well if not better, but is obviously geared (pun intended) for capturing performance data - it also costs a bit more.
