Good story, OP. Not sure how I would handle this...but if/when I do, I hope I'm as successful.

So what would be the right way to handle this? Would you just ignore it? Would you drop the plate number off with the LEOs?

Perhaps keep a super-soaker water gun in the car and yell "I have your urea injection right here!" and blast them? (Yes, kidding, of course)....

If there are laws about how loud mufflers can be, I have to imagine there are laws against all this black smoke being poured out of an exhaust....

Nope.. and they don't even get emmissions tested. The only thing that can get them. In trouble is if the smoke a highway to the point of not being able to see a certain distance. Then they get a ticket
