They've been around for a while, but I think they're a pretty cool idea. Not everyone needs a big brake kit...and the stock calipers aren't exactly eye candy, even when painted.

I equate it to toilet paper in a bra....its false. Your also not fooling anyone.

Just paint your stockers. You can make them look good.

yep! Totally agree with Barricade. I painted mine and they look a ton better, and dont have the poser-ish look of a cover

Would that be the same thing as putting a hood scoop on your car that does absolutely nothing? It's an appearance mod... nothing more, nothing less.

What kind of paint would you use?

yes, somewhat, although the scoop does a lot more for looks than caliper covers do. Most people wont even notice the brakes.

And for that matter, I just saw the astronomical price on the covers.

To me there is a difference. Your analogy has a small flaw.
It would be passing off an existing part as being something else.
Lets use your scoop example- On a scoop your not covering an existing working scoop with a flashier one that doesnt work... Your just adding one to the car (that doesnt work) and I agree thats an appearance mod.
Its existing part subterfuge if that makes sense. To me that is a big difference. Can it look nicer? Well sure but beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

If you didnt have calipers and you wanted to have them as an appearance mod then why not - but to cover up to pretend its something else?

How do you feel about putting Shelby stickers on a stock V6?

but hey....I have friends that have them and love them. I cringe when I see them on a car but to each their own. This is my opinion and we all know what thats worth.

My point was merely that the stockers can look sweet.

I used G2. Then I used a Mustang stencil with spray black engine enamel high heat paint for the pony. Dont wait to long to peel the stencil off though.

By putting on caliper covers, how is that pretending it's something else? If you were to also paint "BREMBO" on them, then I'll give you that. But no one is running around with caliper covers saying "Dude, check out my sweet new Brembos!"

I hate false badges as much as anyone, but again...No one's claiming that caliper covers suddenly turns the car into a special Brembo Edition Mustang.

Is your Saleen an actual Transformer...?

There is a difference between 2, 4 and 6 piston calipers.
Take a guess what those are copies of....?

It is a misrepresentation.

A misrepresentation of what? Are you telling me that if you walked up to a car that had caliper covers you would think it's a big brake kit. If so then you need some glasses. They don't even look like brake calipers.
Unlike the fake hood scoop or the fake side scoops at least the caliper covers are functional... they help keep brake dust off the wheels. But once again it's all about personal taste. If you don't like 'em then that's fine but I don't see where people who have them are trying to pass them off as a big brake kit.

Of course they are made to look like big brake calipers, thats why they have the fake bolts all over them.

Straight from the description on American Muscle:

They even represent that it will make people think you have the Big brake kit.

Its no big deal...really. I dont care. Use them if you want.

Hey where did you get the stencil and have you thought about doing a small write up. My 01 bullitt needs the calipers repainted but I've been holding out because of the pony stencil

I may have a couple left. Mine were measured & cut based on the S197 caliper measurements.
Im not sure how close it is, size wise, to the bullitt. We can check.

Any vinyl place that makes the pony's can do the stencils. That is actually the part they "weed" out to make the pony. Just tell em you want it mirrored so your ponies are both facing the same direction on either side of the car.

I owned 2001 Bullitt # 0737....thats where I got the idea. I wish I didnt sell it.
That was one fun car. Although the Mach1 we have now was a nice replacement. lol

I can walk you through it if you like. The neat thing about G2 is they can match your paint code. That triples the price but at least the option is there for that.

If I recall its red with a silver pony??
