Talking

Well, today is suppose to be Andy's (1999 Black 35th GT) first day at his new job! I know he is excited to be joining the FORD family.

Sloan Ford of Exton, PA.

Anyone in the area should stop by and welcome Andy!

I had the opportunity to meet Andy and his wife when I invited them down to my dealership I work at. Andy sent me a PM, and asked it he could take some photos of our Ford GT we had just gotten in. I told him no problem at all, I always enjoy talking to a fellow car enthusiast. He is very personable, and well knowledgable on Ford cars, so he should do very well, once he gets the whole sales process down. Getting the steps of sale down, and remembering all the different paperwork was confusing to me at first. I told him, it may be a little slow at the beginning, building a customer base, but if you hang in there for a few years, it will all come full circle, and it will work out great.

I still remember my first day. A lot of writing thing down, and my mind was spinning. I look back at it, and admit, it was alot for a 20 year old to take in, but I am glad I made the decision. I LOVE MY JOB!!!. I encouracge anyone who is looking for a car that live near Sloan Ford to look Andy up. He is a great guy. Good Luck Andy, your do fine. Give me a call to tell me about your first day..

Some dealers give the option of a demo allowance, if you already own a car. They give you a dollar amount per month, instead of a car. Most places won't give one to "rookie" salespersons. They want to see how they perform first. In terms of getting a demo, I had to sell 10 cars to earn my first. From what I learned though, most dealers do the allowance nowadays. When salespeople stop in on dealer trades, they ask about things at my dealership, and when I mention demo's, they're amazed that they are still given.

I think with Andy's knowledge on FORD he will move up fast.... he knows alot about everything having to do with FORD vehicles. Safety, performance, prices, mechanical.... I'm sure he will be one of the best SLOAN has!

When I started they gave used cars and i was given a 79 Chevette stick shift. Biggest P.O.S. I ever drove [this was on 1981]. Luckily I started selling like anything and became their top salesperson in no time and graduated to a bright shiney new 81 Escort!

Anyway GOOD LUCK and sell lots of rides. PM or call me any time if you want to pick my brain [shouldn;t take long].

Your absolutely right. He will do very well at that store. They are a more relaxed atmosphere. Not a huge store. He will move up quickly. Hope he lets us all know how his first day went.

I talked to Laurie, (Andys BEST half) and she said that he had a good day yesterday but he was tired. Andy will work Monday - Saturday, so not sure when he will get a chance to stop by TMS..... I think that when he does, he will be glad to see his own thread full of well wishes

I talked to Andy after his 1st day. He mentioned that he was reading the Ford Source Books, the books that have all the info on the cars, trucks, and SUV's. He said the showroom was really busy since it was the last day (yeah right) of the sale. He starts sales training on Monday at the PADA biulding, the Pennsylvania Auto Dealers Association. I guess that dealership has an outside company do all the sales training. I told him to stop in if he needs directions to get to the place, as the building is 20 minutes from my dealership. From what he told me, he is enjoying himself. Way to go Andy,

quick Q for the dealers: how old do ya have to be to be a salesperson? i've been thinking it would be fun for a part time job for a while, but never really asked about it. thanks!
