2014 Track Pack vs 2015 Performance Pack

Hey guys,

I am in the market for a mustang after many years (sold my 96 cobra years ago and have missed it since.)

I am trying to decide between the 2014 track pack and the 2015 performance pack.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Trying to keep my budget around $20k, but willing to wiggle for the right car.

Thanks!

The huge difference is that the 2015 is the newer "S550" generation, and the 2014 is the older "S197" generation.

In addition to the complete body and interior re-design, one big difference is that the S550 has independent rear suspension, the 2014 has the old solid log rear axle. If you are interested in road track performance, the IRS gets the advantage. If you are interested in drag strip, then the old solid axle might be better. If not concerned about either kind of track, then the styling is probably the biggest differentiator, and that is personal preference.

$20K is going to be tough in today's market, for a GT (V8) of either year. You might be able to get a V6 or ecoboost for that money, not sure. You can take a look at some of the on-line used car pricing tools (Edmunds, Consumer Reports, Blue Book, etc) but be prepared that the numbers they show might be low, meaning you might not actually be able to buy a car for the prices that they show, because used car prices have gone up so quickly lately.

PS - welcome to the forum!

A different choice might be worth looking at is the '12 & '13 Boss 302, being one of the most complete Mustang of that era. 'Asking' prices are in the $25K - $30K range with 50sK to 80sK miles. Gts with either package you have in mind will be hard to find and possibly not within a reasonable distance from the location where you are at. I looked at the AutoTrader nationwide listings from the most northern Florida zip code and found only (3) '15s with the performance packs. By contrast there are (57) listings nationwide for the Boss 302. Also try cars.com

Happy hunting.
