[2005 Base] Waterleak

Hello,

I own a 2005 Mustang Base.

First:
Last year I had a water leak behind the passenger seat. I replaced the door seal (original ford number: 7R3Z-63025A71-A/B on both doors) and the leak was gone.

Last week I saw I had the same problem. Water behind the passenger seat on and under the carpet. I have also checked the cabine air filter (that's dry).

Can I check anything else? Does anybody had the same problem?

Second:
Could the water go through the whole in the door? (check here to see photo: https://ibb.co/BPwHbtN ). If it's rains hard, the water will float through these holes but I don't think it could be over the edge of the body and goes in the car.
In number 2 on this photo there is no rubber/seal more. Does anybody know what kind of Ford order number this is?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Jos

First! Welcome to TMS.. Despite the cabin air filter being dry, you also need to check the rubber grommet seals which surround the cowl cover attachment tabs. There are 2 grommet seals located directly under the plastic cowl cover on each side. Once the rubber grommet seals wear out, water can then drain through them behind the firewall and finally into the cabin area. Needless to say, you will need to replace the upper rubber grommet seals from Ford in order to resolve the water leak issues. Also make certain you check the lower rubber drain plugs, located below the cabin air filter for any obstructions such as leaves, dirt and so on. Meanwhile, hope the info provided may be useful

Hello m05fastbackGT, thanks for your answer/help. Do you mean these rubber seals? (photo: https://ibb.co/5cdPqnb -> found on internet/not my car)
Yep, the giant seal under the cabin air filter is clean. I found this solution last year on internet and checked it immediately.

The link/photo you provided are indeed the rubber seals I was referring to.. However, I was not referring to the giant seal under the cabin air filter, but rather the 2 rubber drain plugs behind the firewall, located on the bottom.. If they are clogged up with leaves, dirt and so on? this will cause water to build up and enter through the cabin air filter, into the cabin. As for the giant seal under the cabin filter? Most definitely check for cracks/tears in addition to any other rubber drain plugs located in the firewall for any dirt, obstructions as well..

Thanks for your answer/help. I will check the 2 rubber drain plugs. Can I see/feel them from above the car or do I need to go under the car? I'm not sure where they are located. I will look nearby the cabin air filter.

You can see them from above the car as soon as you uninstall the plastic cowl cover and cabin air filter behind the firewall. Just look straight down, you can't miss them!

Today, I uninstalled the passenger seat and the carpet. I saw the water is definitely leaking from the front of the car.
I also uninstalled the window shield and I immediately saw the left Retainer-Cowl Panel (above the cabin air filter) was completely broken (if you stand in front of the car and look to the front window, the left one). So al the water from the window is collecting there and the water goes through that hole into the car.

I found this on the internet last year: https://latemodel.cachefly.net/downl...sb08-26-07.pdf but i only replaced the "Retainer-weather strips on both sides". After replacement, the water problem was over for some months.

Because I read a lot of Mustangs from 2005 has this problem. I will order the right parts and I will replace those things and see if this helps (I'm pretty sure this will fix my problem too).

Parts:
* 5R3Z-63517C58-A or 9R3Z-63517C58-ARetainer-Cowl Panel (10 pieces)
* TA-2 Motorcraft Seam Seal

I can fix it mid November. I will post again after the fix.

By the way, I didn't find the 2 rubber drain plugs. Are the drain plugs right under the cabin air filter (if I uninstall the cabin air filter), do I have to look into the same compartment as the cabin air filter is install?
<<==="You can see them from above the car as soon as you uninstall the plastic cowl cover and cabin air filter behind the firewall. Just look straight down, you can't miss them!"==>

Thanks for the help.

Dude! as soon as you remove the plastic cowl cover, look straight down to the very bottom in the firewall/kick panel area, you'll see the 2 rubber drain plugs. They are NOT underneath the cabin air filter, but are located on the very bottom in the firewall/kick panel compartment. Although the cabin air filter is also located in the firewall section, it's located in the upper compartment of the firewall, rather than the very bottom of the firewall/kick panel area where the 2 rubber drain plugs are located!

he is right I had the same problem a little bit ago. My wife and i went for a drive after a day of rain and her feet were getting splashed with water. It was the drain plugs in the fire wall. Has been dry since. Also what I did was put some silicone spray on it to try and keep them from sticking together.

I too have had this same issue on my 2005 Mustang. Water started rushing in when I turned a corner after a rain storm. I cleared out the drain plugs
in the cabin filer compartment and the leak stopped for a year or so. Recently the leaking has started up again but its not the same issue as before.
I took the cowl off and noticed this small hole near the drain hole in the cowl. I stuck a paperclip in it to see how far it would go in. I am pretty sure this
is the cause of my latest leak (see pic). The water comes in on the right side of the glove compartment and drains down into the circuit board in front
of the passenger side door. What is the best way to repair this hole? Some kind of silicon sealant? I currently have my carpetting removed
until I am 100% sure the car is waterproof again lol.

FYI I know there is a one of those rectangle grommets missing in the pic, it fell off while I was removing the cowl. It was in place when I took it off tho
so I don't think that s the issue

Thanks for any advice
Mike

Is that just some body sealer that got old and cracked? If so, I'd apply more in that area. Hoping it is not rusted out instead.

Also hope that hole isn't rusted out? But no doubt, it definitely requires some body sealer for sure.

it looks like a weld to me. There is no rust anywhere else on the car so I dont think its rust. I have had so many water leaks lately I wouldnt be
surprised if its rust tho I guess lol.
