I have just gotten a 96 Mustang Convertible with only 45,000 miles on it from a good friend and love it.

I have a question about a rattle I am getting. It is around the section in the driver's side where the top folds down into. It is in the area directly behind the drivers door.

Any suggestions or ideas where to start.

Thanks very much

I have a 96 GT vert and haven't had that type of rattle back there. Is the drivers door loose in any way? Have you ever taken apart the rear seat area before (i.e. speaker inst. wiring, stuff like that)? If you never have, it's not that hard. There are two white tabs on bottom of the rear seat. One on the passenger and driver's sides. Push in the tabs and the bottom cushion will be released. Pull it out and work on the screws that hold the upper cushion in. You'll have to pull straight up to remove it. The left side panel has one or two screws holding it down. The left scuff plate will have to come up as well, before you pull the panel. Pull up the panel and take a look to see if any of the convertible parts has come loose. Before you do that though, go into the trunk area and remove the false panels back there to see if there is anything rolling around free. Other than that, I don't know what else it might be. Good luck.

I have a 98 vert and have not experienced that problem. Just make sure it's not the rear seatbelt clip tapping the plastic panel. If you push the clip up the belt to the top of the seat, it will stay snug.

Not much help - sorry.

I may be experiencing that with my 95, does it make the sound when you go over a bump while turning? that seems to be when mine makes the noise...

Yeah, it's when i turn and go over a bump. My dad took out the door panel and everything there was something loose, but he fixed it. But now it still does it.

I think all verts do that. Unless it's relly bad, learn to live it. I did, but my noise was very minor and it didn't bother me. I chalked it up to living with a rag top and Ford quality on the build platfor. I never had tat in my other rag tops, but they were all sports crs.
