WHY LOCK AN ACTIVE THREAD?
Come on guys!
Every decent/live thread that existed was lost on Doomsday, so if there actually IS an active thread that may have "meandered its way off topic", why lock it? The "new" topic is obviously what people want to talk about. Move the thread to an appropriate section if need be, but dont lock it!
In particular, the little "political debate" in the Shelby GT500 section inspired this thread, but in general, needlessly locking active threads happen all the time. Yeah, yeah I know "we're not Stangnet" and all the rest, but as humans, nothing interests us more than conflict. So if there is an argument, I say the mods should fan the flames! Keep things interesting. Anyway, I'm sure this will be locked or moved, but...really. There is obviously not all that much new information to be had/discussed here, and certainly not enough to fuel daily conversation. So its not as if arguments displace potentially valuable discussion, they just increase hits for the site. I--and many others I'm sure--come to TMS 80% for human interaction (amiable or otherwise--especially otherwise actually) and 20% for information. If were all "okay" with an argument (which by participating in it, we obviously are) and were all being civilized, who does it hurt?

I guess the thread was closed because of the articles I linked. I like Galaxie, however he must not have liked to see that the canadian military was torturing people just a few years ago. This was of course just a jab at BC Shelby and his anit-american rhetoric.
By the way, how long before this one is closed and disappears???

I'm glad Galaxie closed it. I don't come on here to debate global warming, religion and the whether the US military/foreign policy is good or evil. There are plenty of other sources/forums on the net to discuss these issues. Why do we have to bring it in here? Take it to PM and spare the rest of us.
Personally, all these discussions do is get me angry and take away from my enjoyment of this site.
I like that fact that I can come together with people that I probably wouldn't normally come across in the real world; to discuss a common interest (mustangs).

Hmmm. I haven't been to a single Mustang car show/gathering in my life where a fight didn't break out. I always thought the two were synonymous with one another.

I dunno if this applies to this topic, but during the times that TMS was down I checked out some other mustang sites. Some were OK, and some were just plain argumentative, rude, and full of folks that just wanted to pick a fight about anything or everything. I really enjoy the fact that TMS is reasonably civil, informative, and mostly tolerant of other opinions when it come to things mustang. JMO

A true American clasic....no fffense BC And they are remaking it as we speak. I think if I am not mistaken that the Rock is playing Filo....cant they come up with any new ideas instead of b*stardizing a true classic? Wasnt the Longest yard bad enough?
As for the topic lock thing I can understand why it was done but I think for once everyone was having fun with it and not argueing...but I havent read the newest posts so I could be wrong. One of the things I think is great about this site is not only do most peope get along but that when there is a disagreement it doesnt usually get out of hand. People seem to respectfully disagree most of the time

That's actually why I came to this site...because I got tired of the flaming and general rude behavior. I'm all for free speech, and differing opinions but I hope we can express those opinions in a non-argumentative nature.

I think a debate can be just as friendly--and far more constructive-- than "thats a hot hood" or "when are we going to find out more about these cams?" followed by nineteen "+1" and "I agree" comments. And sometimes a debate about cars can (God forbid) grow to exceed such specific confines. Oh wait, who cares! Its not hard to click the "back" button and find yourself another "I just redynoed with a CAI/tune, 298rwhp" thread.
Hey Guys,
Just to give you an understanding why I closed that thread.
The main topic was about markups on Shelby Mustangs. The thread then meandered way on a tangent with arguments on global warming, world politics, Canada vs. USA etc, etc. I posted more than once asking things to be kept on topic, but things didn't really happen like that. I didn't have a problem with guys poking fun at each other, since it was all in good fun and was remotely on topic. I got the impression that things were starting to get ugly. In terms of political discussions, in my 2 years of being a moderator here, I have not seen one that has been civil.
I wanted to close the thread before any bad blood was brewed. There has been more than once instance in the past few months where very informative threads have been ruined by bickering and I have spent lots of time cleaning them up. Likewise, there have been instances in the past few months where guys have left the site, been banned or kept arguing with members through PM's long after the thread has been locked.
I hope everyone who was involved understands why I erred on the side of caution, otherwise, if anyone ever has any issues, questions or comments, by all means, shoot me a PM.

Sigh...living in a society can be so troublesome. Of course we can all understand why you have to do what you do, though I still think that most of us know to hate a man's ideas but not the man. If anyone is truly emotionally affected by the comments of some anonymous loser hiding behind a computer screen (all of us) perhaps forums aren't for them...
Oh well, I suppose I shouldn't press my luck, I dunno where I would find people to antagonize should you ban me.

The discussions are pretty good, but I agree with galaxie about people getting angry and that leads to plain nasty comments that just **** people off. I for one am not soft skinned but I am learning that political correctness is out of control and its better to just keep your mouth shut rather than start a huge fight.

Amen Brother! There are plenty of sites where you can get "down & dirty" and flame everyone and everything you want.. This site has been great in helping its members when they have a question/issue as well as giving feedback/opinions without making the person feel like a uneducated bum. A guideline I try to follow is not saying something on a site I would not say if the person was facing me.
