sorry to be a party pooper....

...but I thought that there would never have to be a thread that started like this..

http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showthread.php?p=5582286#post5582286

I too thought back a while ago that the language filters were a little ridiculous, but ever since those rules got laxed, I think the site has gotten progressively more and more distasteful. This place used to be a place I could surf from anywhere, but now I am kinda scared of what I might see because I do a lot of my surfing of this site at work...mostly all of it. So...I guess this is my plead to clean up the site a little. In my opinion, this site is no place for anything NSFW. I know that there a a few threads I cant go while I'm at work(yes, the girls thread)...but its kinda hit or miss what you will find in the off topic section or even regional chat. I hope this does not fall on deaf ears, And I'm sorry if it looks like I'm calling people out, but I didnt mention any names, and the thread above just made me really think about the purpose of the site and my allegiance to it.

Nope Cody, its not falling on deaf ears as we've alreayd been discussing it. People whined and complained and threw the 1st amendmant at us all the time when the language filters are in place, but now that the flip side is sorta shown.. well it doesn't fit our ideas as to what this place is about.

Well I will get on this to defend the "other side" if you will, the DEVIL's ADVOCATE.

The Girls with Mustang thread: 1481 posts and 147,664 Views.
The thread by mmr007, appears to have been canned as I cannot find it anywhere. Mind you it was a bit more revealing than the stuff in the other posts, BUT at the same time, not R rated by any stretch of the imagination. And IMO did not deserve to be canned.

What I am getting at is, you cannot have it both ways, everyone has different likes and dislikes. What one enjoys, will obviously offend another, as we have seen and documented.
I happen to be on the other side of the fence, (not directed at the forums or any particular member) I personally am tired of the propoganda being spewed out across this country under the guise of "religion" and the so called "moral majority". I have seen that it is these types that are the biggest offenders and hypocrites, see Focus on the Family, Ted Haggard, Catholic church scandals, blanket condemnation of violence in video games and music and TV, yada yada yada....

This is a public forum no? You have the right to visit or not to visit, and by coming here or ANY internet site, you, to a certain degree, have agreed to have relinquish a bit of your "control".

No one forces anyone to open a particular thread, no one forces anyone to comment on it. If one opened it and it was not to their liking, close it and dont look at it again. A simply way to resolve this issue would be the creation of a specific section that requires a password to enter, as has been done on many other sites. Fact is girls and cars (and bikes) go together, it has been that way for years and will not change.

But judging from the above referenced numbers, people come back time and time and time again.

The reason I "identified" myself was just to give everyone the idea of where my thoughts come from....That is to say i doubt too many people are going to be as conservative as i am and I did not want to claim that my views would be the same as the majority of the site's contributers. Thanks for giving your point of view BULLITT INTERCEPTOR. I wanted to start a dialouge on this and I appreciate you ideas.

A little unneceassary jab there, but a good point nonetheless. I'm only 22 and not in bed with any politians. Those embarresments are major setbacks, and very unfortunate that those people were able to fool so many into thinking they were legit. I'm speaking from the heart.

The point i was trying to make is that if we are to the point of having NSFW threads, it has gotten out of hand. This is the cleanest Mustang site out there in my experiance, and it is slowly turning into the same filth as the rest of them.

valid point

But you dont know what is in a thread untill you open it. Then, after I have viewed material (that does not offend me, but I could get busted at work for viewing) Its too late. NSFW titles do seem to be the answer for what i am saying here, but 1.) you cant trust people to title NSFW threads correctly, and its not up to the mods to fix them, and 2.) It should not get that far anyway.

Cody,

Point taken, and I have noticed some of the NSFW comments by others. I view at work but I'm the boss so no worries for me. Outside of the "Ladies" thread I personally will do my best to keep it cleaner on my part. I hope I was not part of the problem.

Like it or not, you have no "rights" on internet forums. Every membership agreement I've read basically tells you that.

I think you are confused about religion. I will use Christianity as an example since that is what i am and know. Being Christian does not make one morally better then anyone else. It means that we know that we are sinners and need jesus for redemption. So using Catholic scandals to discredit religion is completly misbased. FACT everyone is a sinner, including followers and leaders of the faith.

LOL at free thinking individual.

As it is always the non religious person that claims free thinking yet refuses to hear or read religous information.

To quote Lewis "A young man who wishes to remain a sound atheist cannot be too careful of his reading."

Sorry for the rants, if this turns into a religious debate feel free to pm me.

I'm not claiming that I have any rights...I'm just trying to make a suggestion to clean up the place is all... If the site isnt cleaned up a litte, I can choose to leave.

I work in radio, and when people call in or email suggestions to the station and the station decides that it is not impotant enough to change anything, those listeners change the station..

That is my right.

well since we are all sinners and we need Jesus for redemption. I guess I am going to hell, right? Since I am Sikh and not Christian, and therefore don't have Jesus to redeem me of my sins?

OK this is not going down a good road here.

Can we just agree as I have done to keep it out of the gutter so the members who view from work don't have to worry about getting canned!

No religion, just common courtesy, please.

Perhaps just a small icon next to the thread that signafies that the thread is NSFW. Then if you see the icon, you don't open it if you don't want to see the more 'mature' content. Very simple solution for all I think.

Placing an icon is the same as titleing the thread NSFW. who is in charge of placing the icon?....who or what determines what is and what is not NSFW...Since this a matter of opinion, I say we just error on the side caution and not post anything that is even questionable...this site is supposed to be PG, no? I think we are all experianced enough to know what is PG and what isn't.

Gary: he was just answering the question...but I do agree. this was not inteded to become a religous arguement...In Knights defense, he requested the religious questions be sent via PM. I also invite the same if anyone has any questions. I appreciate you doing your part to clean the place up on your own!

Cody and Knight,

My comment was not directed at Knight. I should have quoted Clark Kent in my reply but Knight posted before I could finish my post. So in context my reply was to Clark Kents post. I have no problem with Knights beliefs or yours as I am a Christian, just not a very good one. But I felt this path towards Christian vs. all others was not a good place for this thread to go.

I will try to do my part as I have been a little lurid as of late and I would hope that I would always post something I wouldn't be ashamed to have my wife read. (With the exception of the "shots of ladies" post, thats my weakness)

I would go more like 90%...but you're right, glenn...Its not that bad. I'm just trying to keep it from getting worse.
