So please tillman please keep giving the advice and we know your number. A few sites I visit have banners at the top of the page while others have banners and a venders area. This site has the banner and a button to see all adds. I think that works pretty well. I also like the vendors area for weekly/monthly sales. TMS ROCKS
but of course when I click on his sig link I get

(Please bare with us as we are redesigning the whole site. The pages you see here will be left up for your convenience. Additionally, the Tillman Speed online store is now available at APDPerformance.com. Please see the "Online Speed Shop" link on the menu bar for details! )

We need to have sponsors on the site. They are part of the community just like any other member but with a the autority given to them by the owner to post and sell product.
At first when I saw the posts I wondered is this a change to the whole forum having someone offer to sell you something in a post. The fact is that if the owner approves of this then it is fine by me. I would rather have someone offer to sell something and offer advice than not have sponsors to help the site.
Actually there are a lot of "paid posters" out there. Just google it. Anyone posting could actually be a paid poster or promoting a product posing as a member and you wouldnt even know it. At least in this case we know the person and company are approved. As fot the site. Everyone needs to upgrade sites from time to time.

There are a lot of advertisers that respond to our questions and needs, most are subtle about it. These people have been here a long time and know the "unwritten rules". Then there are other people that look at the forum as an open market place and add a quote of price on almost every thread... IMHO that is what Sodaman is getting at. There have been some that have been band from the forum and others that are pushing the limit. I am in retail ( nothing I can sell here) so I know how to be tactful when getting my name out... others evidently do not.
For those who think I am talking about... just back off a bit,,if someone asks a question answer it, but not every single post, and don't post a " yes I have it at $XXX price, PM me". Try check out my web site and let it go. I could go on but I won't. I think some people can read between the lines.

I personally thought Tillman was really helpful in answering questions I had about buying a CAI. He didn't push too much, and he even mentioned Brenspeed and Bamachips. Sure he told me his prices, but I thought that was helpful too.

I think having someone advertise on a tech thread is pretty usefull. Because I'm guessing when you want to mod your stang, you need to buy the mod, right? Well in a way, isn't knowing the price of something a part of the helpful info about the mod?

jmo.

Well considering you have a pretty even mix of "for and against" comments in this thread, it looks as if Evil Capri's suggestion is over your head. Try being a little more constructive next time you hit the reply button instead of attacking someone.

As for the "advertisers" section, that is something which will totally be up to Brad. But as of right now, I just spent 30 minutes glancing through the posts of some of our most active advertisers. I don't see any outright parts whoring jumping off of the screen (except for one business who is no longer with us), but I do see a lot of helpful people who just so happen to own a business that encompasses the knowledge that they are sharing with the members. If there is a problem with that, I'm not quite shure what to tell you because I'd much rather have Tillman* replying to question about EEC tuning than Scothew. While businesses do have a little different access to members besides the rotating banner at the top you have to remember that posting here is a double edge sword. If they attempt to talk about things they know nothing about, members BS meter will go off and they'll loose business. They are also regular Joe's like us, so their demeanor and persona here can also hurt their cause. But on the other side of the sword, those same businesses also bring a level of expertise that our average user would never have access too unless they were paying for their services directly. This is my opinion and does not represent the ideals of TMS.

*(I'm not picking on you, your business just fits my example)

If I'm missing something please set me straight. If there glaring examples of parts whoring please provide us with links so we can investigate. Keep the opinions coming too, we'd like to hear more from the membership.

Isn't this...http://forums.bradbarnett.net/forumdisplay.php?f=42 where all the vendors are supposed to be posting their sales? I thought that was the whole point of the 'Parts Specials" part of the forum?

+1, you can't fault someone for working hard.

Being a "sponser" of this site, I understand where all of you are coming from. I do not "abuse" the Redline thing, you know I have it, if you are interested, you can contact me.

I do agree that some sponsers "overdo" it, I, as a MOD see it all.

I think that there should be some, LIMITS, if you know what I mean.

I like the revolving banners, but what happened to the "View all ads" link that used to be under the banners?

This was pretty helpful for me!
