Thanks for replying. I realize that there have always been ads here. Let me clarify- I'm not annoyed about ads being on the site, I'm annoyed by the type and style of ads on the site. The ads within the threads themselves (particularly the one after the 1st post on each page) is obnoxious. What's worse, is that it's an advertisement for your own site. When visitors see that ad, they are already at your site. I'm willing to bet 99% of them would be able to tell you that they can join the site for free. It's pretty much common sense.

I'm not sure if it's because I logged in (and before I was browsing as a visitor), but now I don't see this particular ad. Perhaps you removed it. In any case, I think it really clutters up the page when it's present. If you've decided to remove it, kudos. If not, and the site continues to get more cluttered, I'm out and I won't be back. The internet has plenty of ad-cluttered forums to visit. I don't need to be a 'Team Mustang Source' Member to have to deal with those ads.

Edit: That ad does appear only when I'm logged out. While I understand there is a work around for me to avoid them, I still think that the effectiveness of that ad is going to be pretty low, while the amount of annoying clutter it adds is pretty high.

To be honest, given that ads had been running on the site and some of them were flash ads, I wasn't quite expecting such a reaction. I understand some people not being fond of the idea, but there have always been ads running.

Very true, but they were ads from vendors we all did business with and who many of if not all of them frequented this site with help, feedback, ideas, sneak peaks at new products etc. & they often came to us asking what we wanted and needed. Now our long time supporters/friends/vendors are gone and we have stuff from Google.

I don't think you spent enough time here with things how they were to understand how TMS for many was a comfortable almost family/friends setting. The old ads belonged to the people who helped us make our cars what they are today.

I understand this is now a business for you and your only goal is to make money but look back and understand how and why the forum was started in the first place. Then maybe you will understand why we are not so welcoming of generic Google ads.

What your talking about really isn't an ad. It's something we put up so guests who haven't registered on the site are prompted to do so. If your logged in you wont see that prompt to register.

There were a few people talking about the speed of the site being slow before the ads were put in place so I'm not sure if the slowness your experiencing is connected to the ads. We are the only site on a very fast dedicated server in the middle of the country so I'm not sure what the issue is but we will try and figure it out. We pay a company to help us out with server performance issues so we can get them involved if needed.

As far as the ads are concerned, we are using Google/DoubleClick for our Ad Server which runs some of the largest websites on the internet. I'm not saying it's impossible that they are causing long page loads but its rare. We will keep an eye on it since this is a new install.

Take a look out our other site www.f150forum.com and see how the ads are over there. That's a pretty good idea of where we are headed long term and our members are pretty happy with the site.

Thanks.
Here on TMS there is ONE banner ad at the top of the site, and that's it. You keep refering us to how F150Forums works with ads. If you're trying to win us over, that's an extremely bad example.

There is ONE banner ad at the top, and there are SIX on the right column, and ONE at the footer. That is a total of EIGHT, count 'em, EIGHT ads being displayed on the F150 site. Let's not forget the self promotion ad between the first and second post of EVERY page reminding one to join bringing it up to NINE.

Since I run a few websites myself, I can understand the value of an ad, especially when people actually click on them, but are EIGHT different ads on a page really necessary?

For those who haven't been to the F150 forum, a sample screen capture is below. Ads are circled in RED with one at the footer that is not visible on the page.

They way it sounds, the ads will be happening here too. If it does, you'll be losing a lot of the regular long term members.

I'm not trying to cause trouble or tell you how to run your site, but the regulars here are set in their ways. While some change is good, not all of it is. It's the members that make a site. Scare them away and all that's left is an archive of what used to be.

Just sayin...

The "ad" in between the first and second post is a register box. A lot of people put these up above all content but we didn't like moving all the content down so we moved the register box down the page. This isn't a paying ad... just a way to get guests to join in the conversation. Once again you don't see this if you log in. Just for guests. That's it....

Yes, we've pointed you to F150Forum.com because we are proud of the site and our members are extremely happy as well. Each site is a little different as far as ads go but we think it's a pretty good example of what we think is a great site. Ask our members and you'll find they are pretty happy.

Also, could you try to connect to www.F150Forum.com and see if you have the same issues there. That sites runs on a different box and different IP but the server specs are the same and they are right next to each other in the same data center.

Thanks.

Don't worry... we will get this figured out.

But once I log in, i'm still going to see the other 8 ads, right?

But do they know what it's like to not have all the ads?

Adds or venders ? As an owner I can see where they may want to lay sides with on a $$ issue and if the venders oh had to pay more well they'd be ticked I'm sure , but for all to go that most of us supported I'd like a clear un evasive answer for that as to where they went, they are on other sites. They say time heals and all there will be adjusting for everyone that I'm sure, so don't all get to bugged out and ride it a while huh ?

I understand that you don't like the ads. Ads are never ideal but sometimes they are nessesary. Thanks for your feedback.

Give us some time. Our goal is to sign up vendors but we just took over and need some time to reach out to them.
We would prefer vendors as well.

But you had high paid vendor ads at the top and replaced them with Google Adsense which pays a lot less.

Ok I am prolly thinking like ALOT of people on here right now. I dont care if I get banned but one thing you guys (JonF and NathanW) is that THIS IS NOT YOUR F150 FORUM. This is a MUSTANG ENTHUSIAST Forum that we all love. The way that it has been run before you guys got here has been Excellent. The only ads that they had were THE VENDORS that sold MUSTANG PARTS and that WE ALL have done business with. We dont need all those ads from everywhere else. This place is a FAMILY and not just a MONEY MAKING MACHINE. If all those ads start to appear on this site you WILL lose ALOT of people cuz they wont want to deal with all those ads. We have paying members here including myself that is prolly getting tired of the mentioning of the F150 Forum as well. Yeah I love Ford trucks and will always drive a Ford truck but enough is enough when it comes to this MUSTANG site.
