Newbie with an 08 GT

Hey all, just purchased my first stang last Saturday. 2008 gt convertible with 70,000 miles. Drove it for 2 days, put about 250 miles on it and smoked the 5r55s trans... dealership is putting a new trans in now, it’s not supposed to cost anything but I won’t know for sure until it’s done this week. Sure enjoyed the car while I had it tho!!! Looking forward to learning about these cars and some upgrades. I’ve always built 1972 and older cars, so this is a whole new adventure for me. Anyways, I will quit wasting time! Have a good one y’all!

Looks good, and welcome to the site.. Why are they replacing the transmission? Auto or manual gearbox?

It’s an auto. I’m guessing it was traded in because of the trans issues. Was driving through town and it couldn’t decide what gear to take off in at the stoplights. Got it on the interstate to get home and it worked perfect. Went to put it in the garage later that night and had no reverse. I purchased the full power train warranty with it (only way to get GAP insurance was with that warranty.) hoping to have it back tomorrow.

What I don't quite understand is how you were able to get a drivetrain warranty on a pre-owned 13 year old vehicle with 70k miles, to begin with

not sure, but they would t let me get the gap insurance unless I bought the warranty. It was bought from a large dealership and was considered a certified preowned (not sure if that matters tho).

I'm sure that being pre-owned certified does in fact have a lot to do with it, otherwise, they wouldn't had provided an option for purchasing the warranty coverage IMHO. In the end, all that matters is you have the warranty coverage and the dealership is going to take care of it. Meanwhile, congrats on your "08" GT vert and welcome aboard
