Hi I have always loved mustangs and I finally got got one a few months ago. It's a 2004 v6 3.8L automatic. I am not too savvy about fixing auto problems but I am super eager about learning. I paid of my car now so I am starting to put money towards beefing it it. As of now I bought a CAI and just switched my brakes that were up and went ahead and put all 4 performance brakes. Where should I start? How should I approach fixing it up? I want to make my v6 strong at a reasonable type of spending not too much or too little either. Please help me out I'm new to forums and am serious about learning. Much thanks.

This might be a dumb question but what are 4.11 gears? What do they do and are they easy to install?

 

Gears are what go in the rear differential.. it will make you quicker off the line while sacrificing top speed. You will want to get them installed. They are not a task for a newbie because they are very specific on the backlash tolerance.

 

Ok will do. I looked on American Muscle and all I found for a 6 like mine was 4.10's? Is that the same? How much will effect the top speed? Can I regain the top speed with another mod? What other things will I need for the gear upgrade?

 

4.10 is the same for the most part. You will need a tune cause your speedometer will be off. And do you plan on going over 130mph? Can't gain top speed back with another mod unless you put a t56 manual trans in it with a .50 overdrive.

 

Ok cool. Would changing the throttle body (stock) to another one help me right now? Or should I wait and do my exhaust first.

 

Throttle body won't do anything for you. Your stock throttle body is efficient enough to last you a bunch of mods.

 

Ok that's awesome. It's hard knowing what's gonna help when every item on websites promises all this and that. Would changing the intake manifold help at all? Is it necessary? I looked on AM and they don't seem to have any for the 6.

I know a lot of mustang v6 owners try and get the explorer intake. Supposed to breath a lot better. A quick boost will be nitrous, supercharger, or turbo.

 

What all would I need I upgrade my exhaust? I want to put dual exhaust and I've heard a lot of good reviews about flows and boorlas. Would I just need one of either? And then the pipes? Or what?

 

Off road x or h pipes will help you gain some lost power in the exhaust. But tend to make the exhaust raspy. I would get some quite mirrored because the v6 can sound bad with really loud pipes.

 

Does the exhaust have to be the next step? Can I work on other things in the mean time besides the gears and intake? I know a tune would help. What else? What are underarm pulleys?

 

There is no specific order to the mods. You do what you want to do first.
