During an ice storm in January, a drunk hit my beloved 2004 Jeep Liberty and sent it (and me)spinning down the highway at 60MPH. Luckily, a guardrail stopped us. Unluckily, the jeep was now a worthless pile of twisted metal.
The good news is the cash from the settlement was used to purchase a well maintained 1998 Mustang GT. My 8 year-old son thinks the Ford Mustang is the greatest car ever built, and despite its age and faded paint, thinks owning one is a dream come true.
At the time, I didn't know the 96-98 model years are among the least desirable of the breed. Regardless, my 8 year-old son is thrilled with our Rio Red Mustang. It had an aftermarket hood, tinted windows, 2003 SRT 17” wheels (which I hate and want to replace with stock wheels) and a Flowmaster exhaust when I bought it.
For now, it is a daily driver until we buy my wife her new SUV. Then I get her beater mini-van for a daily driver and the Mustang begins life all over again as a project car.
The plan is to swap the NPI intake for a PI version, install Modular Head Shop Recession Buster 2VRB2 Cams, a shot of nitrous and the usual bolt on mods. Then, paint it red with white stripes – a paint scheme my son demands. Try telling an 8-year old that his choice of paint isn’t what you want.
Anyway, in the meantime, I am trying to learn as much as I can about the Mustang.
