89 5.0 starter question;

Was up guys? I have a 89 coupe 5.0 that had a stock starter that sounded kind of loud annot normal an finally gave up, It has a 9 tooth gear on it (stock) an I have a ministarter but it has 11 tooth gear, I am not sure whats the diference or if it will work. Can I get any input before installing?

The diameter of the pinion gear does not matter. Early stuff had 9, the Ford mini has 10, and the Denso style aka Powermaster has 11. It is where the gear is placed in the bolt circle that matters, IE. 157T or 164T fly, One for a manual and one for an automatic. The difference is how far the gear comes out of the housing. Some do have problems using the common 157T manual mini in autos even though most say that the starters interchange ( probally true with the older style). Most mini starter suppliers list 2 part #'s for the mini for a 157T or 164T.
