Surprisingly, I finished everything. Had some help though, my wife got lazy and decided to not do the rest of the laundry today so I got out of that, and my daughter did her homework herself while I was swapping the speakers out on my car.

BTW, avoid Polk Audio MM571s. This is the second set that have failed inside of 3 years. Don't know what they're doing, but 3 of the 4 speakers have developed shorts inside the woofer wiring. There's a set of wires that run from the input lead to the center of the speaker and if I use a pair of tweezers to wiggle those wires the sound cuts in and out. I think they're literally tearing the wires apart with their own vibration. Unfortunately, I can't get the metal housing off to fix them.

After having two sets fail though, I replaced them with Infinity Primus Pr8602f speakers this time. See if those work better.

I'm getting my wife, who's a pilot, her Christmas present:

Thank you so much for purchasing a ride on the B-17 'Texas Raiders'. There is no doubt that without the support of individuals like yourself this world famous bomber of WWII would not be flying today. We are very excited for you to have this once in a lifetime experience in the airplane and want you to keep a few pieces of information handy before your flight.

The location for the ride is:

Heart of America Airshow
TSTC Campus Airport
Waco TX

Wow...great present. My late Dad was a radio gunner on a B-17 with the 8th Air Force in England in 1944. His plane was called "Ka-Laang"....named after the sound that shrapnel made as it ricocheted inside the fuselage.

I'm envious. I always wanted to take a ride in one.

Gotta love the B-17. One of the greatest flying machines ever produced. Good thing it was ours, and not one of our enemies'.

With the bombers, it's more about being able to get into the plane physically (climbing ladders, etc) than fit. With the fighters, your size might be an issue.

Her grandfather was a tailgunner in a B-17. He never talked to anyone about it except to her. I told her about it and she was more pleased by this than anything else I've ever given her. I could tell it was special to her. She's going to sit in the navigator's position. I'm debating whether to put myself on the flight as well.

WWII vets rarely volunteered information about their service and experiences. I've never met a vet who bragged about his service. I always had to start the conversation with my Dad, but he was glad to answer my questions. And everytime 12 O'clock High with Gregory Peck came on TV, we made a date to watch it together. That's when I learned a lot from, and about him.

The tail and belly gunners were two very uncomfortable and dangerous positions on a B-17. I don't know how those guys did it on those long round trip missions. I'm in awe of all vets who saw combat, especially in WWII, and particularly the flyboys.

In which theater did her grandfather serve? If he is still alive, please thank him for me.
