Voluntary work
Voluntary work
Evening all.
In the last few months, despite never doing systematic voluntary work before, I have become involved in the following
German Shepherd Rescue - I house check potential foster homes for neglected / abused GSD's, and transport rescue dogs from the pounds to kennels
Rochdale Dog Rescue - I transport rescue dogs from the pound to the kennels where they will (hopefully) get a new home
NW 4x4 Rescue - This is a group that offers it's services to any public body that needs us. This can include travelling to areas affected by flood / snow / road collapse and ensure that the affected residents can still get to medical help, shops and the like. We are not a taxi service and can only be called in to help by police / fire / medical / local government agencies. We do not charge for our time or the fuel we use.
So guys, what do you lot get up to?

Good thread James.
Um, outside of my real job (sys admin for a software firm), and running this playground, I am a volunteer firefighter.
I have my level I equiviliant certification, first responder, hazmat awareness and operations cert, apparatus operator cert.. ive taken courses in crash victim extrication, propane & other volatile gas emergency response, and also clandestine drug labs, all on my own dime and time. so far ive got close to 300 hours of actual class training time in, so im hoping to get my instructor license sometime in the near future so I can teach everything ive taken at departments, mine and others included.
Its alot of work, weekly training, calls all time of day and night, no pay, etc etc.. but the pay off is well worth it. Here's a thread on a fire forum i lurk on that has lots of responses as to why some people volunteer. http://forums.firehouse.com/showthread.php?t=69001
