I've read that the Stig is any of a number of Formula 1 drivers... The advantage of that full suit and helmet is that it makes it quite easy for them to use different drivers depending on race schedules and other committments.

False alarm!
TG were filming yesterday a "Britain vs. Germany" feature at Zolder Circuit in Belgium (close to the location of the Battle of the Ardennes in WWII). Tim Schrick was playing the role of "German Stig", representing Germany alongside Sabine Schmitz. Britain was represented by the real Stig and another (so far unidentified) driver. The cars involved were 2 Jags, 2 Mercs, 2 VW Golfs and 2 MG Metros.
