So i was drining my 06 GT last night and i looked in my rearview mirror to see blue flashing lights. :cop: so i pulled over and the officer gave me a seatbelt violoation.

My friend told me a while back that if i get a small ticket i shoudl try talkign to the DA and see if he/she will drop it. if that doesnt work try to get the date changed and last show up in court and contest it.

I was hoping someone could give me some more advice on ways to get out of this. any advice would be greatly apperciated

Easiest way to get out of it is to buckle your seatbelt. Don't forget to say goodbye on your way through the windshield.

If seatbelts are mandatory in Louisiana, you will not prevail, more than likely. You may have to suck this up and buckle up.

Agreed. Buckle up next time, and either pay the ticket this time or ask for Defensive Driving.

The possibility of you having them on crossed my mind. Along with tinted windows, driving with the fog lamps on is one of the popular justifications among law enforcement officers for making a traffic stop.

You were lucky. Take your medicine and pay the ticket. You never know when the doctor will make another house call.

What jurisdiction---Hammond (city) Police? Tangipahoa Parish? Or Louisiana State Trooper?

If she was a Trooper, just pay it and forget about it. If city or parish, and you are adequately connected, you might be able to escape it.

Also, some jurisdictions have a "probabtion" type provision. You plead whatever the relevant local ordinance is, pay the court costs (with no fine), and they won't report the moving violation to your insurance company. Everybody wins, except the insurance company.

Apparently you don't always buckle up as you would not have gotten a seatbelt ticket if you had been wearing it. That makes no sense. Why would she change it from speeding to seatbelt? They would just reduce the speed you were going instead.

Not true. "They" sometimes change to a lesser violation, completely different, so they still get the funds from the ticket but you don't get such a hit on your license and/or insurance.
Of course, now you can fight that ticket and win. She can't issue a speeding ticket at this point and if you get her in court she'll have to admit you were wearing a seatbelt. The speed you were going is irrelevant as you're not charged with speeding.

(Also punk, 35th didn't say "sarcastic" he said "statistic")

So how much was the ticket for not using the seat belt?

Seatbelt tickets here in Washington state run $101, and the law enforcement are very strict about it.

I totally read that wrong!

the ticket in Hammond LA is on $25 so i'm not even gonna worry about fighting it since i feel my time and effor to fight it is worth more than that... (i dont wanna wake up at 8 am  ) and the court fees are probably gonna be about the same anyway..
