I took my g/f to the Point Pleasant this weekend with my Mustang GT. After going through the ritual hunt/fight for a parking spot, I find that there are no meters where I parked. Instead there are these machines that you feed dollars/coins into. Then it dispenses a ticket with the parking time you bought that you display on your dash for the meter maids (or ticket maids now I guess?) to check out. This stupid machine takes FOREVER to work, and I had to wait in an hour long line. But here's the kicker. I finally got to the machine and I read the price - IT'S TWO DOLLARS FOR ONE HOUR!!!! It cost my $7.00 for a measly 3 1/2 hours! $7.00 for the PRIVILEGE to park in a spot with broken asphalt and a sewage station 30 yards away.

The use of tickets rather than meters also eliminates finding a spot with time remaining. Real nice and sneaky, you Socialists bastards. More money for the state to fund more useless projects! I wonder where the heck all this money is going, being that the public bathrooms still smell like feces, crime and violence is increasing, and most places the boardwalk is still splintered up in most places - that is, unless you get to the upscale housing area. That's all redone.

I'm livid. This is blatant price gouging by the State. It's ridiculous. I feel bad for the teens around locally who probably can't afford to go to the shore with these ridiculous prices. I find it quite ironic that most young kids who live within 20 miles of the shore probably can't afford to go but the rich bennies from 100 miles away will empty their pockets. In fact, if you stay ALL DAY you may as well NOT pay and risk a parking ticket, because if you get away with it just twice out of three times, you've actually SAVED MONEY!

I was so mad that right next to my ticket in the dashboard I left a note that said "HERE'S YOUR MONEY YOU SOCIALIST BLOODstinkERS! I HOPE SOMEONE THROWS YOUR GOUGE MACHINES IN THE OCEAN!"

$2.00 an hour for a PARKING SPACE!? Just who in the heck do they think they are? What's next?? Minimum wage to park on a piece of asphalt!? If I found the jerk offs who approved this price hike I'd give a shot right in his money-grubbing face and anyone else who supports this price-gouging.

Oh man.. I don't want this to turn into a Socialism/Capitalism debate. What country is the only real remaining superpower (US) should settle that debate. I just wanted to vent about NJ Shore prices.

It started way before me. Oh and I can park for a few hours for $2.00. Unless it's for the ballgame, then it's $10.00.

You know how much I pay per semester for a parking permit at MY university. 95 BUCKS! The first semester I was there, it was about 65, which is still pretty high. A community college has like 10 dollar parking permits. Oh, and here's the kicker, the first month or so it is impossible to find parking at my school, so many people park in the residentials a block away

On a side note: Communism in its purest form is a Utopia. But of course, with humans being imperfect and a bunch of greedy bastardos, it will never happen that way.

It's not the state setting meter prices. It's Point Pleasant.
The ranting about cards from a machine for meter parking I agree with.

But considering I (well, work) paid $37.00 for 17 minutes of lot parking in Manhatten, $2.00 an hour doesn't seem like much.
At least it's always $2.00. Unlike the private lots that change prices different days and times. (day or night )
