TGS 2004: Gran Turismo 4 Goes Offline
No online, new B-Spec mode. Due out in December.

September 24, 2004 - At a Tokyo Game Show press event today, Sony Computer Entertainment announced a Japanese release date for Gran Turismo 4. The title will indeed arrive this year, with a release date planned for December 3. American and European releases will also take place in early December with America getting a tentative date of December 14.

To make this date, SCE announced that the game would be missing its heavily touted online mode of play. The company plans on releasing a separate Online-compatible version of the game in the future.

SCE confirmed some final details on what we can expect from the game. A total of over 650 cars will be available in the title, far more than the Gran Turismo 3 count. Commenting on the number of cars, series producer Kasunori Yamauchi said "The world of cars may appear incredibly large, but it's actually a collection of small worlds. In order to cover the interests of all users, we deemed it necessary to include this many cars."

Yamauchi also confirmed that over fifty courses would make it into the game. These can be played in normal and reverse, making for over 100 varieties. The courses will include most of the courses that have appeared in the series so far along with new ones. The inclusion of so many courses is apparently part of one of the game's concepts of taking players on a journey through the world.

Also revealed at the press event was the game's new B-Spec mode of play. This mode focuses on the simulation side of the Gran Turismo series. Players customize their cars and send them out to the raceway for a hands-off race. The game automatically controls the car on the track, allowing the player to view the race in replay form. Players can interrupt the game with breaking and acceleration instructions if they see fit.

Yeah, I saw screen shots of a 'Cuda and a Chevelle. I hope drag racing is actually incorporated, and not just a "photo" mode shot. I saw a thing on Gamespot, and the writer of GT was talking abouthow he really loved photograhpy, and was going to incorporate that in to GT4 as far as being able to customize a car and place it in certain environments, then taking "pictures" of it. You'd actually be able to print the picture.
I thought that sounded really cool, I hope they didn't cut it. I am also a little disappointed that the online mode won't initially be available, I was looking forward to racing some of the guys from Brads site.

I found a site a while back with a bunch of info a while back but I am not sure of the validity of the info though, so I'd take it with a grain of salt.

Cool!!! That wasn't up there the last time I checked the site, the hadn't added any info in a while then BAM, all the tracks, lol.

I think a thread for GT4 would rock, everybody on this site is really cool ( well at least the moderators make them be ), so it would be nice for those interested to be able to get together on line and race, maybe even make up seasons, and series races. My wife would hate it, but I'm in :drive:

On a side note, has any body seen the new wheel for GT4 that cost $150, it is really nice, and has 900 degrees of rotation like a real steering wheel instead of 200. Even has a little leather on it

I'll have to figure out how to set up the online function of the PS2, and what parts I'll need for the PS2, but that will be cool!

I bought my PS2 at a pawn shop and it had all of the online stuff with it ( I think, I haven't tested it yet) it looks like it it is just a phone jack/online thing on the back of the playstation, and a key board.

I live in Oklahoma and there are a lot of tweakers that are always taking nice stuff to the pawn shops, if your lucky you might be able to pick an online pack up for cheap 2nd hand somewhere.

Yeah, they did same thing with Driver 3 and that game stinks. I really expected that game to be better than it actually it. Especially driving part. Driver 2 had a lot better driving than Driver 3.

Anyway, anyone have or know where I can find list of all cars in Gran Turismo 4? If not all cars, at least all Ford and muscle cars.

No one has listed a full complete list, but they have announced its somewhere in the area of 650 cars total. I saw a partial list and it had some cool muscle cars from the 60's-70's.

Evil_Capri, to get your PS2 online, you'll need the network adapter and a router is usually teh best way to get it hooked into your cable/dsl setup.

woot! I've been eagerly anticipating the realease of GT4. I remember when the tentative release was April '04. Now it's December 14th or whatever and theres no online, but at least I'll finally have it. And 650 cars.....man!

There will be nothing better than lining up a hopped up '05 Stang and a '68 GT500 at the strip and going at it. Life is gonna get real good soon.

Also, I am supremely happy that they are including the M-B CL65 AMG. 604hp, 738ft-lb. of torque out of the box. thats gonna be a monster.

that car was on GT2 and GT3. i dont know if its considered cheating, but i used that car for every race possible. on GT2 i have almost all of the racing cars, all the muscle cars, and a lot of cars you cant buy, and its 100% complete

The Escudo is a pretty mean beast. Especially if you go nuts and tweak it... profane amounts of horsepower. I only have GT3 99% beaten, but I do have all but one of the F1 cars and my personal fav, the GT40 race car in Gulf livery.

That car makes me feel tingly...

Yeah, I'm sittin at 98% with all of the cups completed in gold, so I am not really inspired to finish. I am lacking races in the Prof. Clio & Vitz cups, and a few in the F1 series. The GT40 race car is my favorite too.

Has anybody here completed GT3 100%?
