My mom had car accident, some old lady went through red light with van and crashed into her's toyota camry.

so far, we didn't had any problems with insurance. we talked with them today, they will either fix the cars or if damage is more than the car is worth they will pay us how much the car is worth

I would not have filed a claim if it was that small....I would try to pay for the damages my self and not have to go through insurance companies....that way you would not get any points.

Check this out.

My mom's Camry is worth $4,700. The damage on the car is $4,200.

What choice do we have? Do we have to fix the car (cause insurance company will pay for fixing), or can we take the money for how much the car is worth?

MOST of the time when its that close, you get a choice. Some insurance companies say when the costs to repair exceeds a certain % of the value they'll total it.

My opinion -- if you're offered the choice -- and the insurance is paying either way, then I'd take the money and buy a new car. Having been in an accident, it'll never come close to the value of the same model that's never been wrecked.

Insurance is likethe mob. pay us to protect you and when you actually need protection we'll charge you because now we have to work. It's extortion.
It's amazing how you can pay to have the coverage..then when you actually use it then penalize you more...even if it isn't your fault. If it aint points is money.

They are theives plain and simple and as far as I'm concerend you can round up all the insurance companies and lawyers and politicians and grind them up for chum.

Insurance is one of my BIGGEST pet peives!

I agree with you.

In California it's the law....you have to have insurance. It may be diffrent in other states.....

I am aware that insurance companies like any other business, is in business to make money....no company/business wants to loose money.

In your situation, your claim was so small, it probably would have been better not to file a claim.....in any case, think about it this way....would you feel the same way if your fender bender would have been more serious, I'm talking death. Say you killed the other driver or passenger in the other car. All you would have to pay out of your pocket is your $500 deductible and a few hundred dollar increase on your insurance rate a year.

just do what you can to get the best out of them.

My father had a fender-bender with his areostar a few years back. the insurance payout was $1500. I spent $30 fixing the van and the old man pocketed the difference. Too bad that just about covered the increase in premiums.

You can also get gap insurance, some banks offer it free when you finance your car with them.

ok took my car to insurance today... big @ss tree limb fell from about 25 feet and dented my roof and the top of 2 doors. The guy told me that it was like $1600 damage inculding labor and paint for the roof all 4 doors and all 4 fenders. I told him I thought he was fing crazy (only nicer). I do damage estimates on bikes all the time and they end up costing way more than that for what would seem to be less damage.

just pissed

we'll see what the body shop says

i agree with insurance is stupid, but it all depends on your past history, and who yours using. but like the guy above said about killing someone and only having to pay your deductable, it can be more serious as to conviction for manslaughter. But i know when i went into a ditch due to the guy in front of me losing his load of 2*4's in his truck bed, my insurance covered it, i got no points or nothing becuase the guy fled and the lady felt sorry for me lol. turned out to be 1800.00 in damage, but classics cost more to fix. all that happend was a dent from a 500 mile marker on my rear tail and a new front bumper, wow all that for 1800 i ended up pocketing about 800 for tires and my amp and subs lol, cost me about 1500 but the 800 helped pay

Once upon a time long long ago I had a white Neon I adored.
My husband drove it one day, and made a left turn on a green arrow. At the same time an old biddy who shouldn't have been on the road ran a red light and hit him head on.
My insurance company immediately got me into a rental.
Her insurance company- Allstate screwed us over royally. The car was a total loss, but the ahole adjuster took 2k off the car because when my husband got hit, his coke flew into the backseat and stained it, and everything in there flew about. I fought them for two months,(meanwhile my company kept me in the rental). And got royally cornholed.
I wound up doing an equity swap- meaning I got another neon for the same loan MINUS the 2k Allstate screwed me on. That one was a POS. Thanks Dodge Dealer in pelham Alabama, you Do wonderful Business. And that my friends is why I would never again drive a used manual car.

Now, I am overinsured. I have every coverage under the sun, just in case. Nationwide takes care of you, and no I don't have them because I have a bad driving record, I don't even have a ticket on there. I just like em.

Talking

hehe we got all state, but they love us becuase we have o much business with them. we got 5 cars with them, a boat, 2 jet skis a motorhome and some rental properties. we use them for all our insurance and they do great jobs with us. fixed our boat when the engine block cracked over winter, fixed our jet skis when they got hit, fixed my car when it went into a ditch. they are awesome to my family. :-) but i think it all depends on the claims and ur records too.

well past history i dont think has any effect on it. I havent had a claim in 15 yrs and I am "gauranteed renewal."

one thing i did find interesting is the labor rate the insurance company quoted $36 an hour. I saw that and was like wtf. At my shop we charge $80 an hour.
