Do you remember:
Lincoln log master building block sets?! They came in a huge 5 gallon sized can! It was like almost a 1000 pieces and you could build a real nice log cabin or any type structure!
The old steel ' Erector Sets' with miniature stamped steel girders! It came complete with little brass pullys and a neat little transparent plastic battery operated motor to power your creation!
A clear plastic robot called "Mr Machine"?

Remember the Lincoln logs, always wanted an erector set but never did get one.

Don't remember Mr Machine.

What about the wooden Tinkertoy construction sets?

Same here on Lincoln logs. Remember them in like a cardboard oatmeal container?

Didn't get an erector set either.

No Mr. Machine.

Yes on Tinkertoys.

Electric slot cars that didn't have the magnets on the bottom. They power slid all over the track!

I had the first Aurora HO slot car set with Thunderbolt 500 cars (~1964). Skinny hard tires and they did slide all over the track

I remember back in 78 or so getting a race track that was not slotted. The track had a rail all the way around. Think it was TRX or something like that. There was a button on the controller you used to change lanes when you wanted. So you could pass a car. I remember it was pretty cool. Haven't ever seem them again.

I remember going to the bowling alley on our bikes to watch them race on the slot car track.

Someone is making a slot car track now that has a "passing" lane. Cars can run in the same slot but can be controlled separately. I bought our 3 yr old grandson a slot car set for Christmas (so I can play with it)

SCX makes 1/32 and (I think) 1/43 scale tracks with passing lanes.
