last year about this time my neighbors riding mower stopped going .. i take care of most of their stuff so i took a look at it . it is one of those Hydrostatic trans that are said to be the worst in the industry .. so i youtube up some possible causes and one was that the rear end may be so cluttered with grass clipping that the gear oil is cooking and getting whipped so then it wont move .. looked it over and sure nuff the cooling fan was so caked in hard grass that it was not doing anything .. i chiseled off the clippings and sure nuff the next day the oil had got back enuff viscosity that the thing would move again .. hurrah for me .. it lasted all last year .. this year after her second use it quit moving again .. press the pedal forward or backward and you sit still ... i get the call .. i push it up to my garage and give it the once over ,, it`s not the grass in the rear this time .. some more videos convince me that it must be a burned up transaxle . the belt was good . . i am not enamored with them enuff to tackle finding and changing a rear end .. i push it back to their barn ..well , i dont like giving up so easy .. i skower the net once more and run across a video where a fellow shows that this can be caused by a simple buildup of grass clipping in the area where the brake release pedal works .. i run back to the barn and jack it up and sure enuff the brake pedal would only travel about half way back towards its resting position .. i dont ride it every day so i dont know how far the pedal should move .. cleaned out 15 years worth of solid rock hard grass clippings from on top of the deck and the pedal moved 3 more inches and tightened up the drive belt and off it went .. so if you have a hydrostatic mower that wont move check the cooling fan and check the break pedal return distance

good timing, and good reminder .... time to get the mower out and give it a good cleaning!
I have a John Deere and I don't think there is any fan on the transmission? I always think around this time of year "that transmission must need some kind of maintenance" and then I look in the book and it says "sealed unit, no maintenance" and then I forget about it until next year, and then the cycle repeats

I also have a JD and have owned the same one since buying it new in 1997. With proper maintenance and common sense this by far has ]been my best and most productive purchase ever. The phrase nothing runs like a Deere couldn't be anymore truthful to me. Even if it imploded tomorrow it has served me well. I use my leaf blower and blow off everything that I can each and every time I put it away. She's got battle scars everywhere and I've epoxied her plastic parts back together numerous times. I've got no reason to upgrade and would only do so if unfixable.

About the same here, worst was just north and south of me. We had a couple tornados in the area and tons of rain. Never seen that much lightning go constantly for that long.
I got out good in the grand scheme, had a pretty good size tree next to the creek fall into the yard .
