wow, 1969! just being able to find that thing is a major accomplishment . . . I was just a few years behind you . . . and no I never had perfect attendance, always had at least one doozy of a cold or flu each year

In May 1969 I was 16 years old and had my drivers license for a month . Gas was 29.9 cents a gallon but could be had for 24.9 cents a gallon on sale. But I was only making $1.60 per hour working at Sears.

We had a New Years Eve snowstorm and woke up to this for New Years Day. Fortunately, Oklahoma knows how to handle this better than the southeast where I grew up. Even our small gated community has been plowed now.

That's funny. In 1969 I was also 16 and working part-time at Sears. Don't remember what I was making, but I'm sure it was similar.

Worked at Sears in '67 or '68. Probably my first on-the-books job. Took a while to find my "groove". Got transferred out of the pet department for scaring a woman customer by wearing a Boa as a boa. Then got transferred out of stocking for putting a Talking GI Joe voice box in the demo Chatty Cathy. Apparently, I was the only one who thought it was funny for some little girl to pull Cathy's ring and have her say "take that hill, men!". There weren't any temptations in the lamp department to get me in trouble, so finished my stay there. I'm sure I wasn't making much.

My first job was in 1980 making $2.10 an hour. Minimum wage was $2.45 but I was only 15 so they could legally pay me less. I remember my first paycheck cleared $90 and I thought to myself how will I ever spend all that!

It's funny to think about all the things Sears and others used to sell. I started out in the Christmas department selling live trees and decorations. After the season, was transferred to the candy counter. I'm sure I ate as much as I sold! Then went to Sporting Goods where I used my employee discount to buy my first firearm - a Ted Williams Model 3 .22 rifle (same as a Winchester 190). Still have it.

We didn't realize it then, but those were great times to be young.

My first job was in 1982 as a cashier at a convenience store. Got paid every Friday and could cash the check at the store. Pocketing $75 a week back then with gas money as my only expense was like having as much money as I'd ever need. Good times.

I worked at a small mail order Sears. People would order things from the catalog and I had to go to the back and get what they had ordered. We also had major appliances, TV's, tools, tires window air conditioners, car batteries, things like that at the store. We also had an Allstate insurance salesman in a small booth at the store. It was good times.

after a three year absence i finally have a thing or two to share .. 2 years ago i was Tboned in my corolla and was merely one second away from never posting on here again .. the car that hit me kept going but died a short distance away .. i had a cut on my head and had a headache for two weeks ( concussion ) but failed to go to the hospital .. big mistake on my part .. also a big mistake on my part was allowing the wrecker service to tow my car to their facility .. i had forgot that i only had liability coverage ,, a week later i get a notice in the mail that if i want to keep the car i had to give them 600 $ for towing and storage .. the car was junk .. the whole front end was knocked off .. the left front wheel was knocked off .. no reason for me to keep it .. i was very disappointed that my insurance company would do absolutely nothing for me but i had only liability coverage ..over 40 years with ALFA .. the other driver had full coverage insurance but it was a fly by night company and i have never been able to get in touch with them .. i had to eat the replacement cost of my car .. i immediately started looking for another vehicle as i only had the pinto as a backup .. more later

Glad you survived. Wrecks take a long time to heal from. Let's do some bench racing sometime! I've got a '69 Mach 1 at the shop right now you might enjoy seeing!

good to see both of you alive and kicking .. iv`e had 3 brothers and a sister pass away since i posted on here .. oh well life goes on .. anywho after my corolla was destroyed i was in a panic looking for a daily driver as my pinto would not fill the bill .. my crash was on a Wednesday and i was off on the following Friday and on my way to wallyworld i spotted a vehicle for sale in a private yard and the owner was mowing grass nearby .. i whipped back around and pulled in the yard .. the vehicle was a big SUV of some kind but it`.s 2 thousand $ price tag got my interest .. it was wrecked on the passenger side but it started up immediately and sounded great .. i figured i could fix the damage in due time .. it was a 2008 suzuki xl7 .. my bank had already closed so i had to wait till Saturday to get the money for it .. so the following Monday i get tags and insurance and on my way home i stop at a friends foreign junkyard to inquire about parts to fix it .. he says i just got one in but i dont know what is good on it ..i needed both passenger doors and front fender .. he goes and looks and says he has all of them and i will be surprised when i see them .. the price is great .. they go pull the parts and they are exactly the same color as my car .. no painting or anything required .. even the interior was the same ..
